Lol at people shitting on harbor freight. Yes, if you plan to make a living with these tools or plan to put your life in their hands (jacks, lifts, etc), yes, pass. But for your typical diy guy, the rest of their stuff is just fine. Wrenches are wrenches, tool boxes are tool boxes, clamps are clamps. I needed a roofing nail gun. To rent one would have cost $150-$200. I bought one for $90, did the project, and now I have a roofing nail gun.
This. Most of their shite works just fine. For items most people use only occasionally... really, you don't need Snap On or whatever the "go to" name brand is.

I bought a 2-1/2 ton floor jack from them about 15 years ago. It's been going strong with no issues and has outlasted the Sears Craftsman floor jack I had before it. I always put a good heavy duty set of jack stands under the vehicle before I get under it, so I don't worry about it giving out. So what if it eventually blows out one day when using it. I won't be under the car at the time and I've gotten way more than my money's worth out of it.

I bought a knockoff Sawzall about 3 years ago. Abused it during a project, and it still sees some use every now and then. Other than changing blades out, it works great. I think I paid $20.
I also bought a cheap cordless drill a few months ago. Doesn't hold a charge all day, but I needed it for a little project way back in my yard and for under $20 if it lasted through the project and kept working, great. I've used it a handful of times on small things around the house since then. No it isn't a Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee, etc, but I have good corded drills for that. For driving screws and drilling through thinner pieces of wood, this thing does the job.

The drill bits will make you cuss.

If you know anything about hand tools, buy there. There power tools don't last. One just has to know what one is buying. I have one of there compressors that has been in service going on 8 years.
There 3/4" drive ratchet sets, well, I busted a few, but bring it back in and they replace it free.

It was to install hardboard siding, a job that I was doing for myself. The gun rental was $20-$25/day if I recall. It took us a few weekends and a couple of week nights to get it all installed. Say 8-10 days x $20/day and that's $150-$200.

I have a few Tools from H.F.,but most of what I buy is usable things. Air hose, Fittings, gloves, grinding wheels, tarps, rags, bits, zip ties, shite like that.

I buy Zip Ties there on the reg..

I would never advocate a guy buy tools for his business there lol. But for home projects it is awesome. You can get impact tools for $15 that are normally $75 elsewhere. I bought a couple for little projects that each saved me well over an hour of time and I'll use sparingly but still well worth $15-20.

Yeah but that's $1.25 right there. Drill one hole and get a new one for the next.

I have broken most everything from HF. Since I use my tools so much, I don't skimp

Had to cut out some bad sections of joist and install some joist hangers to carry the load upstairs. I went to HF, and spent $30 on a sawzall and $20 on an oscillator for the half inch cut into the old joist directly above the ceiling. Those tools got me through the job. I still use the sawzall about 10 times a year. The oscillator crapped out the next time I tried to use it.

quote:Most of their stuff is crap, but some of their stuff is pretty good. I've been using their jack stands for over 10 years. I bought an auger from there that lasted several years. Got a lot more than my money's worth out of it. Bad thing is you can't find replacement parts like carburetors for their stuff.
my biggest fear is that i buy some faulty jack stands.

I wouldn't buy their hand tools. I've had the same Craftsman screwdrivers, ratchet/sockets and wrenches for 30+ years so no need. I've bought a Central Pneumatic nailer/stapler from Harbor Freight that cost about $20 and works great. For table saws and mitre saws, wait till Craftsman goes on sale.

You can get carburetors on ebay
