Hollywood has come together to make a change over the portrayal of gun violence onscreen.

Judd Apatow, Mark Ruffalo, Jimmy Kimmel, Damon Lindelof, Adam McKay, Julianne Moore, Shonda Rhimes, Eli Roth, Mark Ruffalo, Amy Schumer, and John Glickman are among the first round of signatures for a petition calling for the film and TV industry to re-examine its influence on national gun violence in the U.S.

The petition, titled “Open Letter to Our Colleagues in the Creative Community,” calls for studios to model responsible gun safety practices in productions and curb portrayals of guns in scenes involving children. The effort, led by activists Christy Callahan, the co-chair of the Brady United Against Gun Violence organization’s Regional Leadership Council, and Robert Bowers Disney, comes after the Uvalde elementary school mass shooting on May 24.

“Considering there have been over 250 other mass shootings so far this year, it’s an almost incomprehensible tragedy. Something needs to be done,” the petition starts. “Guns are prominently featured in TV and movies in every corner of the globe, but only America has a gun violence epidemic. The responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives. We didn’t cause the problem, but we want to help fix it.”

The petition continues: “As America’s storytellers, our goal is primarily to entertain, but we also acknowledge that stories have the power to effect change. Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts, and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety.”

With the exception of Mark Ruffalo, the anti-gun petition affects none of these

They'll adhere to that about like the elites did to mask and vax mandates.

Actors don’t make the decisions, producers do.

Violent movies sell. They aren’t going anywhere.

They should just come out and say it.

Gun violence in this country is majority inner city blacks.

Over 250 other mass shootings this year? Can someone tell me where these occurred? I’ve been out of town

Why just gun violence. Why not all violence. Love to see them go after all those super hero movies keeping Hollywood afloat instead of having to be creative and make movies with actual characters and plots.

News flash: It’s not the movies, it’s the video games and all the other slow indoctrinations clueless parents allow to be placed on the youth in this country.

ETA: Video games are not solely responsible for the uptick in mass shootings, but the correlation between the launch of first person shooter video games and the start of youth school shootings cannot be ignored.

Oh the irony of Eli Roth signing on for toned down violence

If he really believes this, then he should give back all the money he made or makes from Marvel movies.

Simply amazing how far this clown has fallen from his days on The Man Show.

Haven't you heard? When 4 or more people get boo-boos, whether directly from a shooting or not, that's a mass shooting.

It's single parent homes and a general decline in American values. Rambo didn't use butter knives and we shot the hell out of people playing Contra at the arcade.
