If you’re looking for a hidden gem for your family vacation, it may be closer than you think.
Familydestinationsguide.com recently wrote an article on the top 100 secret beaches family would most like to visit this summer. And, as you can imagine, Hawaii, Florida, and California are in the top 10. But as you move down the list you’ll start to see Texas and Alabama join in the mix with San Jose and Dauphin Island.
But if you keep looking you’ll see a familiar name from Louisiana makes the top 100. That’s right, our very own Holly Beach is listed as number 89!
The website surveyed three-thousand families to make their determination. They go on to say that Holly Beach is known as the “Cajun Riviera.” It’s a remote and tranquil getaway on the Gulf of Mexico with sugary white sand and emerald-green water.
I doubt anyone making this list has ever visited Holly Beach in person.

Went there as a kid. There were about as many vehicles driving on the beach as on the roads and the beaches were about the same texture and color.

I seriously doubt the water is emerald green. Not in that location.

Yea there used to be a cruising strip people would make rounds on. I don't think it exists anymore. Rita wiped out so much there that the whole dynamic of the area changed. Now after Delta and Laura not much resembles anything it used to.

Only time I go down to Holly Beach is for crabbing and shadow boxing with horseflies.

They called up Holly Beach for research, and they got an AI chat bot describing the beach.

Man, they must have confused Holly Beach with Rutherford Beach.

The Holly Beach i remember from the 70s had brown sand, and the water was essentially the same color, and it smelled like the shithouse door off a shrimp boat.

My family had a camp/house on the front row. Rita demolished the shite out of it, along with everything else
Good times there as a kid. I didn’t think anything of the trashy people, shite sand, and muddy water .. I was just happy to be at the beach and 30 seconds from the water

It didn’t change
They did dump a bunch of white sand there after Rita

Never heard of it until today.

It's secret because it got washed away several times. It's come back a little, but the sand and water are still kind of like Galveston/SE Texas.
I don't know how it's "America's favorite" or anything. It's a good time if you are a kid but it's not the white sand/blue water setup on the Florida panhandle.

A lot of east coach beaches are like that.
It's not a horrible place, and it can probably be developed into a regional tourist draw. But it's not going to compete with Gulf Shores, Pensacola Beach, or anything between Destin and Clearwater. And like those places, it's always going to be vulnerable to storms so any construction there had to be very robust.
