Just got back from a friends house. 39 years old, died of heart attack this morning leaving a wife and 2 kids behind. He was burning the candle at both ends since the flood and this year he had 10 times more stress heaped on him, which is what probably did him in. He had HBP but no prior cardiac events. Take care of yourselves baws, Holliday heart attacks are a thing. Remember to relax, spend time with your loved ones and be thankful for what you have or had.

I had to have a stent put in a few weeks ago. No signs prior and had a small heart attack. I work out, eat pretty healthy and I am 37. They call it the silent killer for a reason. Take it easy guys.

Get a stress echocardiography every so often. They can tell so much from such a simple test.

Since which flood?

What about his weight, cholesterol, diet, family history etc.?

I'm all about good warnings but it's best not to freak people out either. Eat right, exercise, keep your weight and cholesterol in check, relax when you can and communicate with your doctor.

Heart attacks at a young age aren't common but usually id say there's a family history and other factors that play a role over time.

OP is not freaking people out. He’s shocked his friend passed away at a young age and is just telling others.

It all boils down to genetics. You might tip the scales a bit with diet and exercise, but if you’re genetically predisposed to have heart problems your doctor is really the only one that can really make a difference.

I exercise a lot and watch my annual physical numbers closely. Still very scary when you hear of people in supreme shape having heart attacks with no warning signs. Even those crazy Iron Man participants that get hit after completing several of them.

No, whether he intends to or not his post has shock value given his story that a 39 year old drop dead from a heart attack, which is objectively frightening. His intentions may be noble but hes trying to make people afraid they're going to have a premature heart attack. That has nothing to do with the sadness of the tragedy.

And his premise that stressed caused the heart isn't even known.

It's no different than the media posting stories of "healthy " people dying of COVID who are later found out to be significantly obese. Its just frightening people unnecessarily. Its an emotionally manipulated perspective of risk.

That's tough to hear and I am sorry for your loss. Stress is really tough on our bodies. Even if its only 5 mins, take some time to clear your mind. Relax your body. Take away some of the tension.

It’s intentionally a little vague because laying out my friends medical history/ list of comorbidities/ risk factors on an Internet forum would be pretty shoddy of me. No shock value intended and there won’t be a go fund me request, just a sobering reminder to take care of yourselves.

Was he obese or history of drug use or something? At 39 a heart attack has to be caused actively by something I feel like. Sorry that you lost a friend though, it sucks.

When your number is up there is nothing you can do about it. Death of the physical body is inevitable and a part of life.

HBP. Was he on meds? People need to understand that a good relationship and at least a yearly work up with your PCP of choice is a good preventive move to a healthier life. Lots of people don’t realize they have issues until something like this happens. Be proactive.

Great post; seriously. Circulation and blood pressure are nothing to play around with.

We eat healthy, grow probably 75% of everything we eat (basically everything besides meat). Gym 4x a week at least, jog 3 miles a few times a week. Generally take good care of myself; stay lean and limit alcohol/weed consumption and never excessive in either.

27 and the doc just told me I’ve got 6 months to lower my blood pressure or she’s putting me on blood pressure medication. Like another poster said, they don’t call it a silent killer for nothing. Stress can get us all; especially with the stressors currently in place.
