There was a dead one on our porch that was 6 inches long. So glad it was dead. I was ready to get the firearms out. I'd rather see a bear than a large arthropod, arachnid, or insect.

So true man. Those gigantic ocean crabs you see at an aquarium make me think that anytime I see them.
Same thing if I ever watch King Kong when all those frickers come out at the bottom of that canyon. Yikes.

There was also a higher oxygen concentration in the atmosphere if I remember correctly, which helped contribute to the large size of many animals back then.
