Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 24, 2024 – The quiet neighborhood of Ridgepointe on the far west side of Jonesboro has recently experienced some home-grown drama, all stemming from a 6-foot-tall metal chicken.

Ridgepointe resident David Diffine told JRN that he received a text from the neighborhood HOA (Homeowner’s Association) that he needed to remove a bush from the corner of his yard.

quote:

The bush took a beating over the harsh winter and ended up dying. After spring arrived, it never recovered and the complaints about David’s bush continued.

quote:

“Well, last year we got a late winter wind that killed a lot of shrubs in the neighborhood. It was mostly dead, but some parts were trying to grow back, so I thought I’d let it regrow, but I got a text requesting me to kindly remove it. So, I paid a crew to come take it out completely. Which I thought made it look worse, honestly.”

After David decided to trim his bush completely back, he was left with a bare spot in his yard. While speaking with a neighbor, he even expressed the sentiment, “Well, when you trim your bush, you see more of what’s underneath it…”

quote:

While patronizing a local tractor supply store in Jonesboro, he saw a rather large rooster, and decided it would be the perfect lawn ornament to beautify the newly bare corner of his yard.

quote:

People have reportedly been slowing down to take photos, have expressed that he is “being disrespectful” by having the rooster in his yard, and one neighbor is upset because she had to explain to her children what it was.

To that, David said “I told the HOA ‘Why, would they tell the kids anything other than, ‘It’s a rooster!’?'”

quote:

David says he was instructed to remove the rooster from his yard on Wednesday, but he isn’t sure on what grounds.

quote:

He told JRN that there aren’t any regulations in the HOA about lawn ornaments that anyone could point to. They haven’t been able to send him any specific rules stating he can’t have it, so he’s leaving it, for now.

Several neighbors are standing in solidarity with David and Rocky. They’ve mentioned that they’re thinking about getting their own to add to the flock!

Most people that complain about HOAs are absolute retards that don't understand the basics of the whole deal, but if this is in fact true:

quote:

there aren’t any regulations in the HOA about lawn ornaments that anyone could point to. They haven’t been able to send him any specific rules stating he can’t have it

Then he's good to go. Granted we don't know what his covenants say so we don't have all the facts, but I mean if this isn't against any rules then this is an entirely pointless situation since no violations exist..

This is kinda funny. It would not “fly” in my neighborhood. I am dealing with the HOA because a driveway was lit in that blocks all water flow from about 6 houses down. I also have to deal with their crap try to trim some freaking trees so I can simply renew my insurance. It’s a pain in the ….

Pretty much every HOA has deed restrictions saying an architectural control committee can ban unsightly things in the neighborhood

So he’s playing stupid

This is what happens when an HOA doesn’t think shite through first.

One of my HS teachers used to live in the Garden District of BR where there were a lot of restrictions on colors to be used on the house and so forth.

Someone pissed him off so badly that he read through the regulations and found a loophole to where he could use all the colors in question to make it look like an explosion at a Crayola factory yet still be within their rules.

As long as he was willing to live in a house that looked like that, they couldn’t say shite about it.

Why would any sane man live in an HOA with Karens?

Its taking normal nagging and multiplying it times 100.

Not all HOA boards are filled with karens. Perhaps said man doesn't want to live next to gutter trash in a yellow house with cars on blocks in the yard.

HOAs have their specific purpose and as with most things they are typically dependent on the people behind them. Full of karens= people will have a bad time. Full of regular folks that just want to keep a nice community and maintain property value = typically no issues.

Ultimately though, if an adult of sound mind willingly and consciously decides to purchase a home in an HOA community, they have zero standing whatsoever to bitch about the consequences from it.

Lots of people like to have their cake and eat it too with deed restrictions. I.e. enjoy enforcement of other peoples’ properties to maintain property value but when it comes to building a giant wall or putting a chicken statute up it’s “muh property and no one can tell me nothin”

Not all HOAs are bad. Not all HOAs tell you how to prune your shrubs. Not all HOAs ban yard art. But very, very few HOAs are led by individuals who have a sense of humor when their "authority" is questioned. More should, especially this HOA.
