Talk to somebody who is a top guy in your field. He will tell you about the days he had stumbling blocks and discouragement like yours. What he did was take a day off and get his perspective reorganized.

It happens. No shame in it. If you’re working in a complex field it’s part of the game. After a while you learn to expect it and are used to handling the frustration and confusion. It’s part of the game.

Bingo. Eat some pussy. Sardine flavor is best.
Then get back to work. Been there, done that.

Here’s 2 great brain supplements to clear the fog. The first one is a game changer, the second one is something I’ve recently added to take a different approach to brain nutrition.

Give them a try for a couple of weeks and see what you think. Both are easily found on Amazon.

If studying and I hit the wall mentally where I’m having trouble retaining information I would go to bed and sleep for three or four hours then get up early and start again.

My brain starts spinning the second I wake up. Working out first thing in the morning helps. Last week I started using the Calm app to learn meditation. I did not think I’d be able to do it but it seems to be working. Worth trying

3 ways to achieve this: work out, sex, get high/drunk.

Seriously, you need to break the norm. Go fishing. Do something different. The worst thing you can do is focus on the (perceived) problem.

Yes.

Overthinking makes you focus on the negatives. As a result, your mind talks you out of taking action.

Take a step back and remove yourself from the thick of it. Practice sitting in silence daily (no electronics or distractions), and eventually the information that you are needing to process, along with your responses, will become clear.

Couple questions.
1. How old are you, after 40 getting new information may start getting harder, after 55 it gets really hard.
2. Do you have the pre requisite information?
For math and science, it may be better to step back to an earlier step to get that important concept holding you up.
3. You can try asking an expert or a AI to explain it.
Don't give up.

Have you considered artificial intelligence?

It may sound cliche, but I'm not joking.

My depth capacity is rather insane over the last year due to literally making my AI bot be my repo. I feed it everything.

Not only am I on a different level for my day job, I have different personas as I am building different tools and working on different projects.

The point is, if you're hitting capacity, there is no better time than right now to integrate AI into your life.

The difference in my abilities at two different points in time can be staggering. Sometimes I’ll work all day on something and never feel even slightly pleased with it. Then I’ll look at it the next morning and knock it out of the park in 10 minutes.

I’ve also noticed that there are productivity cycles I go through where I’ll do more in a three week period than I was able to do in the previous 3 months.

After a good night sleep, ask someone to come in and force you to defend it or argue with them over it. Not angrily or anything, but logically. Specific threads if a complex 'thing' you are working on.

By pulling those 'threads' on little items and questioning you on that one thing, or a couple, you will have to revisit why you chose that item. That will cause you to focus on it. Hopefully the blob will the dissolve into a bunch of bubbles.

So much truth to this. My best friend loves to peer review me.
