How strenuous was it? I will be 62 if and when we do it. I am in fairly good shape, and we plan to exercise more to prepare, like walking steps in stadium.

Done it a couple times round trip from Aspen to CB.
West Maroon to CB = 11-12 miles. The pass is really scenic, looks like Narnia in that area.
East Maroon to Aspen = 16 miles & 22-25 water crossings. 6 miles uphill, 10 downhill. If you’re in CB eat at Secret Stash.

Yeah, we drove Kebler pass from CB to Aspen several years ago when we went in the fall to check out the Aspens change. We were only there for the day, visited John Denver sanctuary, it was nice.

Definitely preferred CB.

That’s where you ask about vacations, when you need expert advice on Isla!!

This is about a walk!

Camping in the Snowmass Wilderness overnight is one of the most memorable memories of my life. I plan on hiking the Maroon Bells again when my son is older. It's some of the most beautiful scenery in the US.

Marble/Crystal to Aspen is another option if you can get someone to drop you off.

Are you talking about the 4 passes loop? It’s not that high in mileage but you go over 4 passes and it was more difficult than I expected

No, 6-8 hours, CB to Aspen, did not mention loops.

Another cool area that isn't too populated with tourists that is close to COS is Deckers (Pikess San Isabel Forest). Its north of Woodland Park and only 1.5 hrs from the springs. Its got a mountain feel, but I don't think much out there gets above 8k ft.

Our favorite area is going through Durango and hitting up Silverton and Ouray. Its a long drive, but awesome area once you get there. The million dollar highway is a butt clencher with 1000+ ft drops inches from a death drop with no guardrails.

I would like to do that.
My ultimate hike would be to climb to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park

I’m headed to Durango, Ouray, and Aspen next week, spending 4 nights in each. Going to do some hikes and rafting. I’m keeping an eye on this fire because I was planning on driving the south rim of Black Canyon.

Your definition of a hike is not the same as mine.

Love the Black Canyon. You can also do the North Rim and take 133 through Hotchkiss and Paonia over McClure pass to Carbondale then up to Aspen. Redstone is a very cool little town on that route. North Rim is more natural. I've laid on my stomach and looked over the edge of the North Rim.
