Average for who? Who's gotta baseline of legally drunk?
Some people's gut bacteria manufactures alcohol, keeping them in a permanent state of intoxication. Look it up

Judge held a guy in contempt one morning for showing up drunk. I ran him and he was a .404%bac at 9:30 in the morning. Did 2 more test and each was the same.
Happened to a guy I knew. Judge gave him two years for something he would have gotten minimal or no time for otherwise. He ended up dying of a heart attack while in prison.

Highest I've personally witnessed in the clinical setting was .634
Lab was ran 3 times thinking it was an error. She was altered (obviously) but still arousable which was more impressive.

I knew I had read an article about the highest BACs ever recorded. I did a Google search, on the first page was a TD link with the article I read linked.

City bus driver with BAC of .42. We figured his “normal state” was somewhere around .20.

Man, that is nothing in the grand scheme.
We had a nice breathalyzer in college and would hit that after a night of savage drinking and we'd still be awake and hanging out.

In the ER we regularly get in the .2-.3 range. The .43 guy who was absolutely coherent, awake, and alert was at once the most impressive and one of the saddest things I’ve seen. You would never have known he was drunk, much less getting close to potentially fatal alcohol levels.

I saw a YT video recently where a police officer measured a driver’s breathalyzer at 1.21. The driver was a school teacher and completely sober. The teacher explained how the 1.21 score was physically impossible because it meant that the alcohol was over 100% of the blood content. The officer didn’t want to hear it and arrested the guy anyway. His bodycam caught the cop filling out the report and realizing his mistake. The teacher was extremely nice and cooperative through the whole ordeal.
