We see a patient in my ER almost weekly. He’s the town drunk and routinely has a BAC over 600g/dL and is awake and talking. I think the highest I’ve seen with him is 710 or 0.71. The legal limit is 80 or 0.08.

What’s even more impressive is he gets below 100 (when we can safely discharge him) in less than 10hrs. Normal people metabolize ETOH at around 20g/dL per hour.

1.21 score was physically impossible because it meant that the alcohol was over 100% of the blood content.

Actually, that’s only 1.21%. And it is possible, but the person would not be conscious.

.461

Had a guy years ago on the floor. At .461 I had the only lucid conversation. Past that night it was hallucinations shaking and Librium requests.

Had a competition with a friend at the old Tropical Isle ~1992 or so. I chugged grenades, got 3 down at least. Won the competition...I think, threw up all over the floor while sittig at a high top. Don’t remember what my BAC was...but it got cheers from everyone when my friend read it out. Don’t even remember who I was with. Oh well, good times. I think.

One measured .282 and the other .284. I've seen functional alcoholics in the ER totally with it at those levels

Pretty sure Keith Whitley’s was .477 when he died. Too lazy to look up the story, but I believe his cousin woke him up that morning to go play golf. Went to town, came back about 1.5 hrs later to pick him up to play, and he was passed out drunk for the last time around 8:30AM.

While impressive, most of those shot glasses aren't even halfway full. The 50 shots are poured from the same 5th of Patron
