Skipped the 5 year

This just seems ridiculous imo to even have a 5 year reunion. 5 years after HS I still saw many of my HS friends on a regular basis.

I made travel plans to come to my 10th. 2 weeks before it was to take place it was cancelled cause not enough people paid the fees for it. Several of us that had already traveled back to BR for it just got together instead and had our own mini-reunion.

My 20 year is coming up in the fall. I'm actually looking forward to it. Yeah I still keep in touch with many of my HS friends on FB and all.....but I think it will be fun to see many of them again. Ours is a whole weekend of events. I'll likely go to the get together at some bar on one night and the main dressed up event....skip the family day at the park.

ETA: Majority of my HS class moved out of LA, so even though I keep in touch with many on FB...we are all pretty scattered around the country.

I was in the popular group, and I still regularly hang out with some of them. The ones that wanted to get out of Bumfrick Mississippi at least. I've done a good job of keeping up with my true friends in high school. If I haven't seen you or called you in the past year and we went to high school together, then I didn't care to keep up with you. There is only one exception to this, and he joined the Army right out of high school.

just making a joke, we had a class of about 750, bunch of great people, we had reunions religiously, with good attendance, the last few we combined with the class before and after us, now everyone is getting to the age to where they're empty nesters and or retired so there are quite a few "unofficial" get togethers, I think every one should go a least once, if nothing else for the sex we had one girl get knocked up at our 20th

People say this, yet they go out and enjoy themselves with perfect strangers all the time. No one is forcing you to reignite your finicky high school friendships at a reunion. Hopefully we'll have 60-70 of our classmates together to bullshite, drink a bit, and catch a football game. It may not sound like the time of your life, but it is better than the typical Friday or Saturday, no?

i avoid them like the plague

if i wanted to hang out with those fricktards, i could drive 10 minutes down the road and see several of them at a local pub every weekend.

We didn't have a 5 year.

Or I wasn't invited to it.

I mean there are only so many people I'm going to stay in touch with on a regular basis, but I'm not going to limit my interactions to those 4-5 classmates only. To my knowledge I'm on good terms with most of my class, so despite my limited engagements with you during the last 10 years, I still give a shite enough to ask you how you're doing and catch up over the course of a night or a weekend.

Seriously, the whole "I've moved on to bigger and better things" vibe seems pretty miserable to me.

I will probably go to mine if I live in the area, but I doubt I will fly across the country to see some acquaintances.

I live in Dallas though, and my parents are moving away in a month. If I was living nearby, then sure I'd go to it, but I'm not making an 8 hour drive for it, as well as hotel expenses.

agreed, people have different aspirations and definitions of that, I've got some great friends that pretty much cover the spectrum, and when we get together no one gives a shite, sometimes it's like we're seventeen again

So anybody have any stories or opinions?

My 10 was ok. Still kinda felt like high school. Most everyone was out of college, had the first wave of kids, and started their career journey. You could tell then who would pretty well be successful and who were going to be losers and fat arses later in life. I didn't go to 20 because I was coaching my kids football team and the biggest game of the season was that weekend. All my buddies went and passed on that 20 confirmed what 10 pretty well set in motion. 30 is in 4 years.

I am. Course...my parents still live in my hometown as well. So I'm basically just making a trip to see them as well...that happens to also be the weekend of the reunion.

Doubt I bring my husband with me though. He would be bored to tears at something like that.

I wouldn't fault someone who misses it for even the slightest of reasons, but some in here act like they'd go out of there way to ignore classmates and actively avoid reunions, and that seems a bit much.

If you had a terrible high school experience, I get that too, but if it is feasible for you to attend, I think you (in general, not you specifically) should attend.

If I lived within driving distance, I'd go. Doesn't hurt to go catch up with some people you haven't seen in years.
Flying cross country when I already have a couple trips back there planned a few months later seems excessive though

I wouldn't consider any more than 3-4 of my classmates as good friends of mine, but the general group with which I associated in high school was much bigger than that. We don't stay in touch directly, but when we do run into each other at a wedding or some other event, we all have a good time. Our first reunion is coming up for our 10th year and I think it will be a pretty good time. Most people are pretty active in the class FB group as well as the planning.

Perhaps my experience is unique.

I found this was much worse at the 10 than any other. And mostly from the guys who either acted that way in high school anyway or the ones who crucified by those guys. Seemed that 20 and after, people were far less concerned with those things, more about nostalgia and kids/grandkids. Like almost everybody was finally comfortable in their own skin. It is also a little sad because the number of people that have passed on will continue to grow.

I think that's about the norm, the first ten years, everyone is out trying to make their path, get established in whatever they've chosen to do, seems like after the 10th a lot of people eased off the pedal a bit or at least made it a point to maintain some contact, I've got some good lifelong friends from that class

10 was interesting to see who had really busted their arse after high school. There were a few posers, but mostly you could see who was going to be really successful later. 20 confirmed most of who we thought.
