Don't shoot me but I thought Myron Daniels was the best one of the five candidates, but what do I know?

He was by far IMO
He scored higher than Dabadie on the exam when Dabadie was hired
He has been shot in the line of duty, heavily involved in the community & IIRC the past president of a black police organization

He also scored the highest on this current exam out of everyone who took the test. And the scores of the final 5 were:

quote:

1. Daniels - 93
2. Paul - 85
3. Stevens - 82
4. McGarner - 81
5. Honore - 75

So he easily did better than any of the other finalist on that test

And he checks these boxes:

Born and raised in EBR

Still lives in EBR

Graduated from Central High School

Served in the Marine Corp

Earned his bachelor degree in BR

Earned his masters in BR

Only candidate to give a written plan on what and how he will do the job as chief if he was selected

Still working in the trenches to this day as a member of full-time SWAT, seeing first hand what is occurring on the streets

Former academy instructor

current instructor in many areas on the department, including the mayor's cherished Bias Training

Was shot and almost killed in the line of duty in NBR, meaning he has literally bled for the city

Organizes a thanksgiving adopt a family giveaway every year that gives thanksgiving dinners to needy families in the community

Helps organize a yearly christmas toy giveaway where a local school is adopted and toys given to kids

Has been selected for numerous departmental awards and citations, including but not limited to:

quote:

BRPD Officer of the year
Life Saving Award
Service Injury Award
Medal of Valor
Medal or Merit
Humanitarian of the Year

etc,

etc

etc

Oh, and the most import qualification Myron had:

quote:

Gary Chambers, a black activist and vocal critic of the BRPD, said he's concerned about deeply pro-union views Daniels has expressed over the past several months. Chambers, who served on an advisory council on policing for Broome, said he'd be opposed to naming Daniels to the job for anything more than an interim basis.

"He's not progressive-minded, not willing to move the department where it needs to go," Chambers said. "I think he's a good guy but, with his current stances, I would not want to see him as chief of police."
