In a news conference addressing outrage because of the 911 call, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said the woman was not speaking with an NOPD officer, but rather a deputy constable from the Orleans Parish Second District Court. On Thursday, Constable of Second City Court Edwin Shorty confirmed to WWL-TV that a deputy was suspended indefinitely without pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Shorty said the deputy was in uniform and was a block away from the reported rape.

Ferguson said video of the scene did show a NOPD vehicle driving nearby the area at the time of the sexual assault, but investigators could not prove if officers were able to see any crime in progress. "They were not waved down. No one waved or flagged the vehicle down to draw the officers' attention to that particular incident," Ferguson said.

Has anyone looked into whether the rapist is a friend of the police or even a policeman himself?

There is never an instance where if I saw a woman being raped, I wouldn't try and stop the rapist. What the frick is wrong with people nowadays?

Hmmm, you'd think twitter lady or one of the many witnesses who also "reported the rape" might have tried to flag down the unit

I would think if you throw a drink or a rock at someone mid coitus they would stop. I mean did anyone yell at the guy or at anything?
No bystanders to stop him?

While it’s troubling that no one stepped in, it’s not the job of citizens to stop crime.

The focus here should be squarely on the abject failure of the New Orleans police, the mayor and the council in undermining law enforcement and all who laid the ground work to create an uncivilized wasteland that was once the crown jewel of the south

I would like to see a video of the incident from private security cameras for that 30 minutes period. I do not trust the NOPD PIB at all.

So you mean to tell me 12 people sat around on the corner just watching this woman get raped and not doing anything? Hello pot, meet kettle.

Exactly. A dude is in his most vulnerable state with his dick out of his clothes no way 12 people couldn't have stopped him.
