They were honorable men then to honor cease fires too.
After a period of being in that hell i wouldn’t have honored it. I’d have mowed them down soon as they come up out of the trench

Churchill takes the lion's share of the blame for this, but the strategic concept was sound. The devil is in the details and it was not a well executed operation.

Churchill did not want a landing.
He ordered shelling.
The absurdly botched landing was Ong the greatest Allied blunders.

DCHH is captivating stuff. Loved the Countdown to Armageddon series but I have been a WWI buff for a long time.

The whole thing is a testament to seeing the original plan through

Churchill’s greatest shame?
Perhaps from a purely military standpoint, but I would argue that his greatest shame was the Bengal Famine of 1943 and his Indian policy at large. First the scorched earth policy in Burma and then the inexplicable denial of wheat to India. Millions suffered and died.
He has plenty of failures to his name, but to his credit, his force of will held things together from 1939-1941 in the face of certain defeat. A very complex legacy no doubt.

Perhaps the most pointless campaign in the war. Not saying that as a knock against the brave men who saw some of the hardest and bloodiest fighting in her war, in hellish conditions to boot. But the whole campaign was a failure, a waste, and never should have been tried.

And people need to understand. The no matter the “side” in a war, there is bravery in the soldiery.
People forget that the waves of History sweep up mortal men in their paths, and their only choices are to swim as it crests or drown.
These boys and men didn’t have any real say in the machinations of cogs far above them.
They answered an age old call, like their progenitors had for generations immemorial.
Don’t hate a soldier for the sins of a senator

That's why tearing down confederate monuments is so sad.

I went to the ANZAC memorial in Auckland last summer. While I am fairly knowledgeable about Gallipoli, the information you provided has made my experience even more meaningful.
Thank you.
Thank you.

This is nothing compared to the battles being fought against fascism today on the mean streets of Portland.

One of my faves.
You’d probably Love the one I wrote about it.

Sabaton is a damned quality band, all of their songs are based around some sort of historical event. Listening to them right now ironically. Also how the hell did you not learn about Gallipoli in high school?
