Battles of the past are so fun to write about. They do a great job. Know any more bands like them?

That film features two of my favorite minor characters in all of cinema: Uncle Jack and Major Barton.
Without going into the spoilers route for those who haven't seen the movie (you should), these were two relatively minor characters who nevertheless exemplified the ideals of loyalty, morality, understanding, strength of character, willingness to sacrifice, and overall general masculinity in the true sense. And they demonstrated these characteristics in a relatively small amount of screen time, without ever resorting to cheap theatrical gimmicks or cliches.
And my band wrote a song about the battle as well

The King of Great Britain and the Admiralty of the Royal Navy figured what they hell? They are just fricking Aussies who are barely literate and as stupid as rocks.

Iron Maiden has a few songs about past battles, my favorite song by them is Paschendale

We actually have toyed around with re-recording some of our better unreleased songs from that period - actually have the drums and bass to most of them already, but the guitarist/lead vocalist hasn't had much time to devote to the project while still doing his day job (CTO of a $30 billion investment firm) and writing/recording new stuff.
Sorry for the thread hijack

And Charge of the Light Brigade.
“Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.”
He knew precisely what this meant after losing his own innocence on Okinawa.
It just got a little misty in here...

I just watched an Australian seven part mini series, released on the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign. It follows four young men who join the army.
On youtube. The first day
Under comments I found this one interesting:

As a Turk living in Australia, I truly appreciate the heroic stories of the both nations. As MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATURK said, Australians and New Zealanders who died on our soils will be treated the same as our sons who died during the war.?

Bro I didn’t learn shite about WWI in high school, at least I don’t remember anything. I knew about who fought on what side but nothing about the politics of it, the horrors of trench warfare, the politics involved with destroying Russia nor really the compete fricking of the ME that England did by who they gave what.
It took Hardcore History and Sabaton for me to go take a deep dive into just what happened. I feel so ashamed

Hate to resurrect a week-old thread, but I promised ya I'd try to link that song - here it is:
The Moderns - "Charge of the Light Brigade"
(yes, I know it wasn't even the same war, much less the same battle - but Gallipoli was the inspiration for the song)
