no one seems to have a set beginning for the Millennial generation. I've seen graphs where the generation starts in 1980, 1983, and 1985

There's a huge gap in tech that those born in 84 had versus someone in say, 88. The difference in those that never spent teenage years without a cellphone do not relate socially to those that had to actually use things like lan lines, pagers, payphones, etc.

Love this article about the generation "Oregon Trail" because it defines the difference perfectly.

That Oregon trail has way more color than the one I played.

I like the way the millenial looks like a douchebage in the graphic. Pompadour, shaved side of the head, beard, and v-neck tee.

Looking more likely they are going to move to the Greek alphabet and call it Gen Alpha, we got a problem when the Betas come next.

It doesn’t matter that much as generations are just generic ideas. You millennials get too worked up about this shite.

You sound like a boomer. Pretty rich considering your generation was handed everything and then you screwed it up. now you're attacking the youth who are faced with paying tens of thousands to go to College, when you guys went for a few hundred bucks a year.

Huh?

I was mocking millennials who always write about how they aren’t the gen y stereotype in these threads.

I simply have a hard time putting people that came of age to the internet in the same group as people that have never known life without it. It arguably represents a fundamental shift in human history. I can promise you I have a very different world view born in 82 as opposed to someone born in 92.

that timeline is off. 1983 (my year) should be the cutoff not 1979. Millenial should be 1984-1994

Me and someone born in 1980 have way more of the same experiences much more in common rather than someone in 1994

This has been done to death on this board, but there needs to be a inbetween generation label for people I like to called "The Nintendo Generation" that is, 1985-1989 (NES was 1983 in Japan, 1985 in the US)

The Xennial term does seem to fit more as I've talked to a lot of people my age who don't feel like we're Gen Xers or Millennials.

ETA: This, I like Xennial, it fits IMO.

This is such a bunch of nonsense. I’ve seen like 5 different timeframes for these generations. This is just dumb shite that people make up. It means literally nothing.

I'm just glad that I'm Gen X in all 5.
In my real world work experience from 1999-2012 or so we were the "I just work for a paycheck..." generation for lacking loyalty to companies and pride in our work.
But now we're old and responsible.

This is the problem, I was 15 in 1999 just starting to work, and I relate to this 100%, yet I'm considered millenial in a lot of descriptions bc 1983 is (mostly) considered it.

It needs a stop-gap description for people born 1980-1985, and then 1985-1989, with millennial being after 1990.

According to that illustration, millennials turn 40 next year. Yea okay.

That's actually correct. Marketers and people have been talking about "millennials" for about 20 years and guess what... they're aging.

The term is often misused as "anyone younger than I am."

I know people who are firmly within the millennial birth dates who refuse to acknowledge themselves as millennials.

millennial denial- it’s a thing

Like said before... 1981-1996 is the most widely used age range, but some entities use 1982 or 1983 as the start of millenials.

It's all just for marketing/polling research though... not like you have to mark a box on your job application.
