I'm cool with that!
I wish EVERY road in the Great City of St George was a toll road...kind of comparable to building a wall around the great city!

Do they really force busing? I saw one school inside St George that was rated a 10 out of 10, so some of the schools must be decent.

Maybe a private school? They ended the forced bussing to my knowledge but the districts are so gerrymandered at this point that it doesn't matter.

The middle class and up left the public schools for the suburbs or private schools decades ago. There are some good magnet schools which are selective admission.

I’m wondering why they don’t just stay in the BR [/quote]

We can't stay in BR because we don't live in BR. We are staying in EBR.
There's a difference.

and focus their efforts their own school district.

They do want to focus on their own school district.

What are the schools like now. If these are affluent areas, shouldn’t the schools be decent already?

There are good magnet schools, good gifted schools, but few in SG. The EBRSS overall is not good, and those not eligiblel or able to get in a magnet school often wind up in schools that aren't good. Their options are limited.
SG wants more control over their neighborhood schools system like folks do in Texas and other states where the ISDs work well.

There are a few decent elementary schools. Good luck finding anything past that though, particularly HS. We are actually zoned for that elementary school.

ETA - this is the only HS in St George

This is the school some of the wealthiest areas of the city are zoned for

I was asking about the busing because I was curious how the population of students is going to change. If it is going to stay essentially the same, the school results will be the same. I’m of the opinion that you can take kids from stable homes where education is a focus, and it doesn’t really matter the type of facilities that they have. The same kids will give you the same results.

They'd have to redraw the districts for sure. I agree, the students largely determine the quality of the school.

There are some quality schools in SG, but some poor ones too. The only HS is average at best and people there say discipline is bad.

Middle schools are scoring about the same.

Does everyone just switch to private school after 5th grade? My kids are zoned to great schools K-12. I’m about to have my second kid out of preschool, and then it’s public school the rest of the way. I’m excited for my pay raise once day care is over.

Some probably do or try the magnet route. A lot of people just start them out in private school from the beginning. Those that haven't already moved to the suburbs at least. Several of the better public schools in the state are in the BR suburbs.

I am two streets outside of the unincorporated area but I wish them luck. I am fighting the move for better schools for my kids. We went to magnet mania last weekend in hopes to get good infor on the magnet program. They posted that last year there were 1800 applicants for elementary and around 200 seats for the 4 schools we would send our child to. The public schools in ebr very bad and I just don’t see them making any headway anytime soon.

We live about a half mile inside of the city limits. If I walk to the end of our street I'm in St George. I probably wouldn't move my daughter anyway at this point. She's almost a teenager and has been in school with these kids since pre k.

Lol
That explains a lot.
There are no great EBR public high schools except the magnet schools and you have to qualify for them.

It was some shady things that went on. Typical Louisiana politics.
