I get that, but what skill is involved? You drive around, find a pack of elephants, get out and shoot it. They're so big you really can't miss it when you shoot.

I just don't understand what the thrill is

I don't either, but these videos never tell the whole story. Sometimes hunts like these are necessary.

Because elephants are way too sentient.

I'm not for hunting elephants, but this was a legal hunt.

If they truly are doing it to thin the herd then why not just euthanize them? To me, this just romanticizes killing one of the smartest mammals on the planet. These aren't deer. They don't breed every year at a high rate. I don't get why we let rich white trash hunt them.

Why is it immoral?

Because

1. They’re not going to eat the animal. They’re just killing it for fun.

2. There’s not even any sport in killing the animal. It’s no different than just walking out into a pasture and shooting a cow that’s grazing on grass.

So if there is no sport nor any use (as in harvesting for meat) in killing the animal, all you’re doing is killing an animal just for the “fun” of killing an animal. It’s disgusting and it gives real hunters a bad name. And it allows all the leftist PETA idiots and their allies to paint all hunters as little better than murders.

The villagers eat the animal

Without conservation efforts with paid hunts, there would be 0 wild elephants left in the entire world. PETA can eat a dick

And as far as no sport in it, did you not watch your own video? You have to get close enough to a bull to put an accurate shot on it for a quick kill, WHICH COULD LEAD TO BEING TRAMPLED BY THE frickING HERD

Africa has some of the neatest animals, but the shittiest people. They will offer their family members up, to a hunt for a $1.

I remember when you could buy elephant skin boots. Those things were tough and would last a lifetime. Wish I had bought a pair back in the day. Of course, I would have to lie about what they are now.

I could never hunt an elephant, lion, etc but at this point hunting is currently the best option to protect them.

Hunters can be the best conservationists. The Wild Turkey Federation is a prime example of this.

Without hunting tourism dollars, the animals in Africa would be around for long. FACT.

I visited a guys trophy hall in south La. he had a tanned elephant ear stretched over a coffee table with 4 stools surrounding (made from the lower leg). On the ear was a paining of the hunter posing over the downed bull. It was a fairly impressive center piece for the trophy hall.

His aim was to collect all the sheep/goats of the world. He had some fine specimens. .

So in a thread about a video about elephants attacking a hunter we have posts from guys saying it’s very easy and there is no sport? Hmmm...

Many of the big game animals in Africa out live their breeding years. Animals such as elephants, giraffes, rhinos, etc live beyond when they breed. The old bulls just become mean and dangerous to not only humans but other animals in their species.

It’s actually extremely beneficial to the elephant herd to remove the old bulls from the herd. So what everyone is complaining about is a benefit to literally all involved. The local people get meat, money, and the most dangerous of the herd removed.

I understand paid hunts serve a purpose, possibly a net positive, for African wildlife.

But real talk, if you're an individual that wants to gun down one of these majestic beasts, you're deranged.

Coming from someone who grew up hunting it takes zero skill to hunt anything. There is literally no sport in it. You hide, you wait for the animal to come out, then you shoot it. Anyone can do it. Having a gun is quite advantageous.

You just reminded me of everyone wearing elephant skin boots and straw cowboy hats with the feathers and hat pins in the 80s. I hope I never see that again.

Personally have read scientific research about elephants, amazing creatures to say the least! They have so many more human like qualities this story does not surprise me. Like others have said those people give hunters everywhere a bad name.

True

But being a good hunter and/or manager of a herd does

That's nothing but conjecture. What percentage of conservation funding comes from paid hunts?

put an accurate shot on it for a quick kill

Does that mean 3 rounds and 50 seconds?

There's absolutely no sportsmanship in hunting elephants like that. It's all about the trophy and the selfie for people who do so.

I’ll never understand wanting to kill herding animals in open field that require no real stalking or blind hunts... to each his own I guess

Yeah I’ll just dump a ton of rice bran on the ground and sit in a box with my heater and 20 power scope and hunt like a real man
