I'm sorry, but in what way is this a subtle brag?

My gf just graduated with her masters from Springhill.

I was stunned by the beauty of the campus and the intimacy of the graduation. Everyone knew everyone. It was unique.

I graduated from LSU and had a great experience (6 football seasons worth).

Choosing to go to medical school (as someone stated earlier) would prompt me to point my kids towards a nonparty school, and the cost difference is negligible if he is planning on making dr $$$$.

He just graduated HS and hasn't picked out his college yet?

I'd go to a SEC school every day and twice on Sunday over a small private college. What if it doesn't work out like he plans? Lsu is much better, and if it does outside of maybe graduate school admittance and a select few in your field no one is gong to know what school was better but 90% of people in the real world have no idea where spring hill is or anything about it. Almost everyone has heard of SEC schools.

I want to believe that Spring Hill may serve him better knowing that he comes from a small town. I saw many pre-med students from small towns go nuts when they hit LSU. If hes truly dedicated though, it wont matter in the end as he will get it done..

Nice ploy when schools say it costs 60 thousand to go here then gives everyone 30 thousand.

Kudos to him. The likely choice for my daughter as well or I hope. I think LSU would be a better path first.

All his pre-admit fees have been paid to LSU for months. Springhill came in late with this offer.

One of those started this thread
I lost my damn mind my first 3 semesters. I honestly believe my son is more dedicated and way more mature than I was.

I went to SH for a year and then came back to LSU. If he wants to go pre-med SH may be the best option. They are well known for their pre-med program and a degree from there would hold a lot of weight. As others have said, the campus is very nice. However, there are only around 2000 students if I remember correctly which is one reason why I decided to leave. The women weren't very attractive either

Just had the same issue....GA public university vs an expensive private college for my Summa Cum Laude graduate daughter who wants to go pre-med and then Forensic Medicine/Pathology. She wanted to go to the private university and she chose that at 40,000 per year. One of her main things was to go to a school where she didn't know anyone. She has over $30K/year in scholarships (including athletic) at the moment. And can get more. Of course I said go cheaper but her comfort zone and happiness are more important. And the school she chose is fine with me in terms of location and reputation... YHC.

He said he wished he had gone to a place like georgia or LSU for undergrad.
He works for a guy that went to LSU undergrad and med school.

I'd get him to pay the additional 24k over time.

The estimator shows room and board cost 16K annually. Tuition is covered plus a few smaller scholarships. LSU doesn't drop a lot of coin like out of state schools recruiting kids.

Sounds like your son is on the same thing I had. Bama and Georgia offered me a full ride, lsu only gave me TOPS plus a couple thousand. This is a more accurate link for you then, room and board should be no more than $10k annually, even at the nicest apartments around campus
LINK
Notice it says estimated "yearly" cost, not semester. You won't pay more than $7k a year if he's on campus. As a point of reference, I just graduated, and I'm living in a nice 2 BR, 2.5 bath, 1300 sq ft apartment in a good area, and I will way less than $16k for my rent this year

Also: your son should go to LSU. If he's a hard worker then where he goes won't make a difference. If he's prone to being distracted and skipping on his studies, then he's going to do that wherever he goes too. I went to LSU and I had a great school/social balance, despite being in a fraternity and a hard academic major. The only people that I've seen not reach their goals at LSU are people that I would describe as the opposite of hard workers

Good info. Thanks. I can use this to my advantage.

It's his decision overall but I believe his heart is at LSU. He's said that was his school since he was a wee lad.

Dorm & lower tier meal plan is $5100 a semester. Factor in parking pass and books for another $1000 the first semester & half that the next. Plus whatever allowance you give him.

Assuming Higher TOPS and LSU kicking in a little for +28 ACT and you're all set.
