Posting this here so it doesn't get lost on the prior page:
Maybe, but the fact that this is also on there completely voids any sort of value placed on Wikipedia rules for Pedro:

According to Wikipedia, "cut throat" is the standard rule:
Maybe, but the fact that this is also on there completely voids any sort of value placed on Wikipedia rules for Pedro:
quote:
Beginning with the eldest hand, each player gets one chance to bid for the privilege of declaring the trump suit. A bid is the number of points that the bidder's party undertakes to win in the deal, the minimum bid being 1 or in some variations, 6.
Da fuq?~!

quote:
When the highest bidder has announced the trump suit, starting with eldest hand each player in turn discards at least three cards face up. The dealer fills each player's hand up to six cards. In the four-player partnership version the dealer's own hand is filled up by robbing the pack: The dealer chooses the cards freely from the remaining stock, and if any trumps remain in the stock discards them openly.
Any scoring trumps discarded by the opponents are counted for the highest bidder's party.
Da fuq even more?!
quote:
Both parties count the card-points in their tricks. If the bidding party keeps the contract, i.e. wins the required number of card-points, the party that won more card-points scores the difference. Otherwise the opponents score their own result plus the value of the bid.
Who makes this shite up?!

WTF? You imagine how long a game of Pedro would last bidding 1?

That would be pretty damn boring.
Reading some of the rules on the different variations of Pedro is interesting:
California
Jacks are worth 3 points making total points in a hand worth 16. If you score 16, then your total is automatically doubled to 32 because it's "so rare."
quote:
One unofficial rule of California Pedro is no "table talk". In other words, no player is allowed to make subtle hints of his/her hand to their respective teammate in relation to their bid or potential play. There is no official penalty for "table talk" and it is loosely enforced at best.
quote:
Finnish variation
In Finland, the games is played in town of Kokkola and in the Swedish speaking Ostrobothnia.
The rules are almost like of the basic cinch described in this article, with major exception that only trumps are played. The other cards in players' hands are just for disguise, to make initial six for everyone. When a player runs out trumps, they place their remaining cards face up on the table and wont participate to remaining tricks.[10]
This leads to somewhat different game dynamics compared to North American Cinch: All partnership cooperation must take place early, at the third or fourth trick at latest. At fourth trick, at least one player has run out of trumps. At fifth trick, there will be two players remaining at most. This means, a person with many but not very good trumps may still be able to win points for the team by leaving scoring cards to the last tricks, of which they are the only participant.

When I was in 7th or 8th the teachers went on strike. We had a parent as a substitue with about 11 kids in class. He was like look fellas. I dont know shite about science but I can teach yall how to play pedro and booray. Which one do yall want to learn. I choose pedro because I already knew how to play booray.

I learned that one year in high school....but I've already forgotten how to play it.

Anyone in Thibodaux that is looking for games, there is usually always a good pedro game going on in Bubba's (the sports bar, not Bubbas II). If they aren't playing, just ask the bartender who plays and she'll get someone (all of the regulars play). Just be prepared for it to be a 5,5 & 5 pedro game because that is what is usually played in there.

Money game. Each partner puts $5 in the pot every time your team gets set, scores 0, or loses the game. Winning team takes the pot at the end of the game.
May sound bad, but it isn't. Winning team usually wins $10-20 per game per person.

Ah ok. Yeah, I would suspect guys at a bar to play for money. When you said 5, 5 and 5, I thought this was another variation of the game play.

If you are forced to bid, you can take a "back 7". This way you lose your bid, but the other team doesn't get any points.

Follow suit is dumb IMO. You bid for the suit. That's the only on suit. Everything else is an off-card.

This thread shouldn't be this long....
Back in the day we would wear out some cards down the bayou....
Oh and it's 7, even for the dealer . Quit being pussies...... Thrill of being set possibly is what makes the game, and errbody gets their chances......
And our game was full or Houma boys about like a yeti full of poule d'eau if you duck hunt with spillway river parish trash. And not once did we play cut throat.(if that is what I think it is, having to follow suit)

Cut throat is the opposite.
Terrebonne Parrish = cutthroat. Don't have to follow suit. Everywhere else is no cutthroat.
