If they need clicks so bad.... remove the paywall from their new site so people can actually read.

People in media like many in government employment, and healthcare think their jobs are sacred.
As we either make severe budget cuts, or hit a fiscal crisis these are the folks who'll wail loudest.

Want readers? Hire real journalists instead of unsubstantiated or flawed claims like this:
Such "verbal virtuosity" comes from prioritizing eloquent rhetoric, clever phrasing, euphemisms, witty quips, cherry-picked data, deceptive labeling, and ad hominem attacks over rigorous evidence, logical analysis, or empirical data.
In this instance, even a passing glance at the 416 infant deaths in Louisiana (2021 total) show the top five reasons being:
1. Disorders related to short gestation and low birth weight (prematurity/low birth weight)
2. Unintentional injuries (accidents)
3. Congenital malformations, deformations, and chromosomal abnormalities (birth defects)
4. Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
5. Maternal complications of pregnancy
Doing just a bare minimum of digging, 200-250 of the deaths have drug/alcohol use as a contributing link, primarily through prematurity (maternal opioids/alcohol disrupt fetal development), SIDS (smoking exposure), and maternal complications. Along with that, ~100-150 of the infant deaths have maternal diet/nutrition as a contributing link mainly via birth defects and preterm birth from deficiencies (e.g., vitamins, calories).
So right there a majority of infant deaths are linked to the mother's behavior but somehow, it's the state's fault and that conclusion is reached only through speculation more than actual research.

Our in-depth series on infant mortality uncovered how Louisiana's alarmingly high rates — especially among Black babies — reflect systemic failures in health care access and equity, prompting public conversation and renewed scrutiny of state policies.

How bout NO
People would pay for journalism in some way if we trusted journalists. People will pay for what they value. But no one trusts journalists anymore. And it’s their own fault.

We’re kicking off our $100K in 100 Days campaign — a critical year-end effort to support impactful, independent journalism in Louisiana. As we approach the final months of the year, we’re calling on our community to step up and help raise $100,000 by Dec. 31 to invest directly in the reporters and editors who bring essential news to your inbox, your screens, and your neighborhoods.
Just look for my check in the mail. “J school” not that good of an idea was it?
And “essential local news”.
