Help needed from the OT

OT.. I come asking for prayers and assistance.
My brother has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma. He was given 6 months if he did nothing or 2+ years if he chose to fight it. He has chosen to fight it. He was scheduled to have his first chemo treatment today. He was notified prior that his insurance plan doesn't cover anything and his out of pocket cost would be $32,000 per treatment. I am currently trying to research what kind of policy he has. With that being said, if his insurance truly doesn't cover anything, what options and avenues do we have to get him the treatment ?
I know there is probably alot of missing info but I'm just trying to start the process and gather information.
Thanks as always OT !

Glad to see he chose to fight
Just wanna add my wife’s cousin got diagnosed many years ago with breast cancer. They gave her 6 months with her fighting it. She survived 7 years, and lived very well until only the last 6 months or so. Another guy I know with cancer, can’t remember which one was given less than a year about 6 years ago. Was playing tennis the other day

There are resources. People with no insurance can get the exact same chemo as people with BC/BS.
Academic institutions would be best resource. Locally probably LSU NOLA

he feels like he was given a death sentence today. I'm doing what I can. It's been exhausting couple of hours.

Medicaid? Might have to drop the current policy and meet income guidelines??

They did the same thing to my dad. Appeal their decision and have your oncologist contact the insurance carrier's MD and they'll pay

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, this is truly heartbreaking. As much as people don't like them and complain about them, I would think a Go Fund Me may be a consideration. Or he could cash out his 401K (or savings, etc) if he has any think built up. Good luck! Please keep us updated.

He could always commit a serious crime and the government would pay for his treatments. He would go to the same hospitals.
Prayers for you, he, and his family.

Appeal the insurance denial
Reach out to cancer services of Baton Rouge or whichever city he is located in
Reach out to a social worker at the cancer treatment center
It’s complete bull shite that he has insurance & has to deal with them not paying when all he should have to worry about is his health

This and sometimes the drug companies have patient assistance programs directly through them. I am so sorry. Just said a prayer for your brother and family.

He already had the death sentence. The cancer was in him. Now that he knows at least he can fight. Man...I’m terribly sorry. There are no words to soothe. He’s gonna need your support to help him in this fight.

Very sorry to hear about your brother.
I'm hoping for the best for him and his family.
But $32,000 a treatment is downright criminal. It really aggravates me that people in need, like your brother and family are having to shell out that level of funds.

The only thing you absolutely have to have insurance for is organ transplants.
Most anything else there are resources to get it.

so here's the problem. I'm looking at his insurance card. trying to gather info. He has GPA insurance. However, it appears to be some sort of wellness plan.
Medical Plan
- Authorized preventative and wellness services are covered at 100%

this ain't goina help but if I get it, or anything else terminal, it's just going to have to run its course, no treatment for me, also, unfortunately for the medicos on here, you can negotiate that down to nothing, good luck
