Would not even think of it. Not only for the huge liability issue, and no matter what anyone says there is definitely liability there, is what happens when the other kids pare ts have to work late? You gonna get stuck with a nanny and 2 extra kids in your house long after you get home? F that S

she would take the 4 year old back home with her, as she would continue watching the 4 year old till 6

I get home at 4

I know there is liability there, but hell, there is liability every time kids come to your house

maybe I'm just too nice or naive

Just to mix it up a bit...

Do it not.

Seriously, this is a bad idea. Four year olds are capable of some serious stupidity. Big enough to get into the knife drawer, dumb enough to shove one right in their eye - for example. And I don't care what the kid's parents say or sign, if their kid gets seriously injured at your house, your arse is getting sued.

how is this child going to be fed?

if she is using your home and your electricity to make money watching another child, she needs to do something for you and your wife

maybe one free babysitting, for a date night, per month

yeah the liability stuff is concerning...I would definitely want to meet the parents if I did agree with this, and I would hope that the parents would want to see our house as well

And have them sign a waiver of liability for the child. Also form and LLC, and subcontract the nanny to watch the kids. You will be taking a %. This will help her get by and teach her how real life works.

Another good point. I have seen people post much smarter ideas on this site and get ripped to shreds and ridiculed. This may be the absolute dumbest thing I have ever read on this board and that is saying a lot. It should be treated as such.

Absolutely not. It isn't a daycare, and you hold the liability.

Through a tube most likely.

And spend more money filing a tax return and formation papers than you make off the deal. That doesn't sound like a viable solution. Not to mention the whole running an illegal daycare out of your home business.

Sorry but it had to be said. You obviously aren't getting the point if you are actually still thinking about this dumbassery! I just had to invent a word to try to portray how stupid it is.

then she can have some of our food that isn't that big of a deal

I don't see that happening everyday and I'm not going to make a kid starve

I'm leaning towards saying no and just giving the nanny a bit of a bump in pay to compensate

do you know the parents of this other child?

if not, how can you make such a claim? lots of mooches out there.

you're going to do it anyway. might as well make it a negotiation. you are doing something nice for her, so she needs to do something nice for you

That is the best idea...throw her a little extra if you can afford it and explain to her about liability issues.
