In current times. Every religion has had its sins. Which is why I can’t get on board with any of them.

I’m a Catholic convert from Southern Baptist. I 1000% believe that Catholicism is the true Christian religion and its teachings are what the earliest churches taught.

However, my struggle is the concept that God isn’t real. I feel all religion is made up to help humanity throughout history cope with fears and things beyond our control, especially death. I think as our societies, values, and knowledge evolves, we change religion to fit our current thinking. For one instance, polytheism evolving to monotheism.

My view is that there is no objective truth in religion bc that “truth” changes throughout history and cultures. Only science and reason hold truths that do not change with whims of society. I’m having trouble committing to agnosticism/atheism but don’t want to fully give up the possibility on God.

Anyone else struggle with this?

You're halfway there. You realize religion is man-made and morphs with the times. Now, all you have to do is figure out why you still want god to be real, and let it go. There are other, better reasons to live, and to live a good life. There's beauty in this being your one, short time on this earth before returning to dust.

I have read it from cover to cover and have seen nothing on this topic.

500 years ago your boy Martin Luther removed the Deuterocanonical books from the Bible. One of those was II Maccabees. In that book you'll see that people clearly believed that the sins of the dead could be atoned for by the living. Start there. I Corinthians 3:11-15 is another place to look.

This makes zero sense. Going to heaven has absolutely nothing to do with being a good person. Good people go to Hell all the time.

That's not really accurate. Look at the infamous 1913 Encyclopedia Brittanica as an example. Scientists and philosophers are fallible and subject to bias.

I understand where you’re coming from. I would recommend participating in an ACTS retreat. It lasted a weekend and it was a small sacrifice of my time to have a clearer vision of my life.

One of my favorite verses...
Matthew 7:7 “ask, and it shall be given to you, seek and he shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you”

Good luck to you!

exactly, which is why it always changes. it is a better guide then some ancient belief system that refuses to adapt to our understanding of the universe.

Being good has nothing to do with it. Good people go to Hell all of the time. It is really sad that people think they are going to heaven because they are good. Satan tells them this and most believe it.

Let me fix it for some of you.

Be a follower of Christ, accept him as your savior, and ask for forgiveness of your sins. If you die and find out hell is real, it would really suck to have not been a follower of Christ.

You came from the dirt and your going to go back to it someday.

All the bells and whistles don't matter. Be nice. Don't hurt others intentionally. Be open to the way other live their life, even if you don't agree with it and you'll be ok.

Oh course when I was a young man, I had these same feeling. Normal. But the older I got, I had found reasons that has answer the real question if there is a God. I'm not going to go into what has made me believe in God other then it is my Faith.

True believers only want those as fanatical and delusional as themselves to enter the kingdom of heavens...But Christians are very non judgemental don't forget...and if you do they'll be sure and remind you how non judgemental they are...as they judge you for not being a true believer like themselves
