4 month old Dachshund Fox Terrier mix. Male

I buried my last dog when I was 18. Thought about getting one from time to time but always said that fate would decide.

Lady that helps watch my great grandma adopted it from the shelter. Got it all its shots and stuff. But she’s older and it’s too much for her. My kids have been wanting a dog.
I didn’t want one too big. Nothing that sheds to too much.

The little guy is scheduled to go back to the shelter tomorrow...
And I kind of feel the tug of fate telling me it’s time.
What should I do? Is it a good dog for elementary school age kids? Problematic?

And what To name the little scamp?

A few names came to mind, if I decide
Seamus
Crossbones (call him bones)
Or
Plunder.

Thoughts?

ETA: His name is Jetsam and he comes home tomorrow

Then it's time to adopt him.

What should I do?

You know what you should do. That feeling is the answer. Buy that pup some toys and treats and a good bed! He's a keeper.

You gotta keep him man!

The fact that you're asking tells me you are attached.

I don't know about the breed specifically but I think all kids should have a dog.

It doesn’t matter what you name him. Just keep him. Seriously.
