So my wife brought home an 8 month old cat yesterday. A patient couldn't take care of it so she took it.

I don't want it inside the house. We have a bulldog that loves people that is an inside animal but I don't want a cat and litter box inside the house.

So we "trapped" it inside my shop with food, water, litter box and a few toys. How long should we keep it confined?

If you can’t give it a good life in your home then don’t keep it. Tell her she needs to see it’ll anyone else would adopt it or bring it to a no kill shelter

What’s your problem? You scared of cats?

They tried to take it to a shelter and vets. No one would take because it's 8 months old.

Can't just confine it. Find another home for it where it'll be appreciated.

First, you need to calm it down. Get a q-tip and get busy

You guys are crazy. Cats live outside all of the time and are happy. I live on a farm.

You are going to have to integrate it inside your home or find another home for it
Trapped inside a shop isn’t fair to the cat, especially if it’s not climate controlled (summer)

Stop being a little turd, and show that animal the proper support, love and care. The dog and cat can live side by side.

Jesus Christ. It's trapped in the shop until it gets more comfortable and feels secure then it can go wherever it pleases.

Its your use of the word "trapped" that is concerning to everyone.

You should have said in OP you lived on a farm
If there’s no issue with it being an outside cat (neighbors, greater chance of getting hit by a car) it should be fine & will probably be great at keeping critters away

Why are you afraid of a cat?
