My daughter adopted a cat in Baton Rouge while in college and living in an apartment. She moved to a place with a “no pet” policy, so the plan was for the cat to move in with me and my wife temporarily. I am a staunch “no indoor pet” person and was irritated about the situation. The cat is indoor only because of our outdoor dogs that would kill it or run it off. Remarkably, Opie quickly grew on me and now is very much a part of the family. She got out of the house back in February and was missing for 28 days. I mourned her loss and rejoiced for days upon her return. I never thought that I would be a cat person...I hated them. Not any more.

I agree with the poster above that warned that the cat would grow on you.

Sorry about your loss....I too missed the multiple posts about Earl’s passing. When the time is right, save another one.....you seem like a top notch pet owner!

Not a fan of cats. Had an indoor/outdoor cat that lived for 23 years that I had to feed everyday growing up, and it constantly got into the flower pots and hacked up hair balls. Never had a cat since then.

Your cat likely killed more than that. There was a study of domesticated outdoor cats hunting habits a few years back. They found:
21% of kills are brought home
30% of kills are eaten
49% of kills were for sport and left to rot

Non cat owners just don’t get it because they haven’t experienced how cats interact and trust their owners. Someone else cat will almost also be skittish and abrasive to you unless you spend a significant amount of time with it. But also, a cat has to bond to you and usually only does that with its family. Maybe just one person. That cat will trust you and greet you everyday at the door and do some really cool shite sometimes. To the poster above who’s cat wakes him up at 5:30, my cat wakes me up at 7:30 on weekdays and 8:30 on weekends. I don’t know how he does it but he knows. I’m wake up on my own around those times and he’ll be sitting in my room waiting on the time to wake me up. It’s strange.

I got a similar thing going on. Brought this old drunk broad back to my buddies last night. She disappears. I go inside. He’s yelling at her Bc she’s in bed trying to grab his tally wacker. He’s wasted btw and she is a real frickin mess. Meanwhile me and my friend are laughing our asses off. And just leave. Found out his daughter was home so now I feel bad. I know csb. I wonder if he kept the old pussy.

That's a good looking cat. You gave him the best life he could have.

RIP Earl.

Man, once you get cats fixed they only go within a certain radius from where they live. If you have a place he can stay during extreme weather (rain, cold, extreme heat, etc) and you are on 10 acres.. It can be a mostly outside cat and it will be fine.

I understand and I get it. I have always said "I don't like cats, but there have been cats I liked".

Good job and kudos for doing a good thing. Respect.

He was, in fact, a "used cat", but he still had some quality.
