GFS may not be too far off with the initiation of the center given satellite presentation and what the HH are finding. They should be near the most likely center soon.

The model consolidation has definitely begun. There's no denying that. The next few runs will be interesting to see how much more clustered they become.

The "Loop" is the initial start of the Atlantic Gulf Stream.
Loop Current water temps are higher than surrounding non LC waters. As a consequence, when storms travel over the warmer waters it's like adding fuel to the fire. The LC is documented to cause RI, Katrina being one famous example.

Katrina crossed it perpendicularly. This one, like Michael, will be running parallel with it almost all the way to landfall. It is part of the reason for the high ceiling.
