Sounds pretty Katrina-ish...honestly....it's been almost 20 years and one could argue it's still not back to what it was.
This will be their Katrina, in 20 years they will still be talking about it. Crazy to watch it happen in real time.

I guess I was mistaken. I knew Boh maintained the temp steel bridge and built the new, but I didn’t realize they designed it and built it by themselves.
My bad.

I do. I have stayed at the Lodge on Lake Lure many times. Maybe you could ask your friend with the cabin about the town of Lake Lure. Tell him to prove it to you because you don’t believe it’s true.

My friends the events we’ve been warning about are staring to unfold. The signs are clear, marking the shift to a new era revealing hidden truths and empowering the people, not the elites. The storm is here, and we mean literally and there’s no turning back.
This was a planned hurricane using #HAARP technologies.
READ ON :
It had to be payback for the PDIDDY stuff coming out. People are waking up so this was Engineered to Target Pro-Trump Counties. Imagine if this intel got out? Well it is.
This was no STRANGE random act of nature; this was a deliberate act, an engineered disaster aimed squarely at pro-Trump strongholds. The timing, intensity, and targeting were meticulously planned to disrupt the resistance against the elites during this critical election period.
Lets take a look at the facts. This hurricane massively obliterated areas that are vocal, patriotic, and committed to freedom-loving American values. Hundreds of pro-Trump counties were devastated, infrastructure annihilated, and communities blacked out from the outside world. Asheville, Boone, Swannanoa, Unicoi—they were gutted, and completely destroyed.
Coincidence? Even the elites don’t believe in coincidences; they believe in power and manipulation. And The Bullish they call " climate change " Which is one huge scam.
This storm was strategically unleashed just before the most important election in the history of man. So as to crush the resistance, displace families, and sow chaos. Power outages, collapsed communication systems—its strange how it is all playing out!
Main infrastructure reduced to rubble, people are dying and entire neighborhoods swept away, lives uprooted, just as the World Economic Forum predicted a billion people would be displaced by “climate change.” It’s not climate change
You are in the middle of a HUGE WAR my friends.
Weather modification isn’t new; it’s been hidden from us for decades. Project Cirrus, back in 1947, was only the beginning. HAARP, geoengineering, cloud seeding—these technologies have evolved to the point where hurricanes can be directed like missiles.
The chaos surrounding the Waterville Dam should send chills down your spine.Reported failures led to mass evacuations, but suddenly, it was “never mind, the dam’s fine.” Really? This relic was allowed to crumble because they want chaos. They want you scared, displaced, running for your life while they tighten the noose around your freedoms.
The media pushes the narrative of a simple miscommunication, but the evacuation was orchestrated to instill fear. The flooding alone should raise alarms. The Pigeon River swelled, sweeping towns away—not due to lack of investment but intentional neglect. While our infrastructure rots, they spend billions overseas.
What’s the real motive? These are not random communities being devastated; these are strongholds of Trump supporters and freedom fighters. What better way to weaken a movement than by annihilating its heart?
Those storms brewing in the Atlantic at the same time? Not a coincidence. They’re showing us they can unleash chaos whenever they want. Its horrific. The destruction is not just physical; it’s psychological warfare. How much can they push before people break? They’ve weaponized our environment against us and think you dont know. They are sick people.
It’s time to stop denying us and telling us we are wrong. This is more proof today. Weather manipulation is real, look into #HAARP and the motive is clear: control over any form of resistance. Hurricane Helene isn’t just a storm—it’s an act of war against those who oppose their sick communism and globalist agenda.
This isn’t climate change; this is targeted destruction, a calculated plan to dismantle opposition and create instability. The devastation of pro-Trump counties is just the beginning. You can see this on the map below. it's blatantly obvious. This is a warning, and the battle has just begun. Stay vigilant!
Oh my......

Here to serve is in Jasper FL but most people here have got their power back so the need for us is lowering.
We are thinking about moving north into southern Georgia. Does anyone know of a contact that we could use to find a place?
We usually setup at a church because churches can get us a few volunteers to help us plate the food.
We provide everything for the meals, we just need a place to go.
We have enough food left for 3-4 days so we could help someone.
Please reply here or to alphaandomegatd@gmail.com
Thanks.

We had a family place on Lake Lure until I was in my late 20s and I have owned a house on the northern section near Rumbling Bald for 20 years and I have to say I have never heard a local refer to the "town" of Lake Lure. Lake Lure is the lake and there is really not much one could call a town, just a little closer than say than French Settlement having a "town". When locals say they are going to town they almost always mean Asheville, Hendersonville, or Rutherfordton depending on where exactly they live around the lake. When people are going someplace around what could be called the town of Lake Lure they just say where they are going: Lake House, 1927, Iron Gate, the beach, Ingles, La Strada or the Mexican joint in the strip mall across from the beach. There is a town hall and visitors center near the Flowering Bridge so that area is probably the closest to being the town I just never encountered locals calling it that. Hell there isn't even a Dollar General near there which should tell you all you need to know.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The only two direct interstate routes between Tennessee and North Carolina are going to be cut off for a long time, transportation officials said Tuesday.
Interstate 40 in North Carolina's Pigeon River Gorge and Interstate 26 in Erwin, Tennessee both suffered massive damage from Hurricane Helene's catastrophic flooding.
quote:
The repairs needed to I-40 will take "months" at a minimum, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. That means drivers will need to plan for lengthy detours if they intend to drive between North Carolina and Tennessee.
quote:
On I-26 in Unicoi County, Tennessee, flooding destroyed both sides of the interstate bridge that runs over the Nolichucky River in Erwin.
quote:
NCDOT said it is working on mapping detour routes, but said it's likely most traffic will have to enter North Carolina and Tennessee through Virginia via I-81 and I-77 until repairs are complete.

That was someone responding to someone else saying that Lake Lure was not actually a town just a lake and Chimney Rock was the town.
The point was Lake Lure is actually a town since 1927 and has 10 times the population of Chimney Rock.
My sister back in the day use to live down there and bartended for years at the old Margarita Grill. Prior to all the tourists coming into the area the majority of lake houses were people from the surrounding counties. I even have friends that were in Dirty Dancing when it was filmed there.

Down town Asheville was already having crime issues and shortage of police. This is an article from last year. One of the reasons we are longer considering moving back.
quote:
Fed-up merchants describe the city’s downtown district as nearly lawless. People sleep and do drugs in doorways, barge into businesses yelling, brazenly shoplift, and frighten customers and employees.
Some long-time downtown workers are calling it quits, disgusted with having to clean up human excrement, needles, broken windows, and trash. Aggressive panhandlers and transients, some appearing to be mentally ill, make them fear to walk alone to their cars at night.
quote:
Police patrols citywide are down. In the city’s core, officers on bicycles are gone, the Haywood Street police substation was closed in 2020, and downtown staffing has shrunk from eight cops per shift to two
quote:
“Defund the Police” movement arose, calling for elected leaders to dilute the power and size of police departments and shift responsibilities to others with more training on the root causes of crime, such as mental health, poverty and drugs.
quote:
Downtown merchants and residents say they see more erratic behavior, including yelling, illicit sex, and defecating in public spaces. Used drug needles litter some sidewalks.
People living on the streets say they, too, are afraid and have been robbed and assaulted.
quote:
The department, Campbell wrote, “will no longer have officers exclusively assigned to respond to … illegal camping, panhandling, illegal parking, drug complaints, graffiti and trespassing.”
The police in Asheville were afraid before this storm. No way they are going to deal with looters

If you are talking about the one south of Ingles (technically in Mill Spring) it "was" still there as is the one further south in Mill Spring proper.

As for stores, the only ones I've ever seen are the Ingles and Dollar General on 9 just south of US 64/US 74 and the lake.

Is there any update on La Strada? Great Italian place, especially considering it's in an isolated area just across from the 1927 Lake Lure Inn. Great mountain views on the outside balcony area. I hope it at least somewhat survived.
As I've seen more information, while Lake Lure is still heavily damaged, it seems as it Lake Lure and Rumbling Bald didn't get quite the level of devastation as Chimney Rock. Whereas Chimney Rock is gone (and it's going to take at least 10 years for Chimney Rock to even remotely recover, if it does), Lake Lure and Rumbling Bald seem to at least still be there.
Does anyone also know about the Chimney Rock Inn and Cottages? It's across the street from the Broad River and up a decent amount so it might have survived. Great little family place, it's where I always stayed while in the area. It was in that area between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, really close to the Flowering Bridge. Anyone know if that place survived? Hope it did for that family's sake, always loved stay there.

I brought this issue up last Sunday and got blasted for it. After playing the game, Clemson has since cancelled classes.

CLEMSON — Just 24 hours before kickoff, the night sky was illuminated with the screens of Death Valley — the brightest light visible for miles into eastern Oconee County, where traffic lights and homes remained dark.
And as the Upstate recovers from what is now known as a historic and catastrophic storm, the one thing many locals struggle to understand is why Clemson University would invite 80,000 people to the eight-square-mile city and strain its resources while thousands are struggling to meet basic needs.
The area around campus recovered quickly from the storm, becoming a hub of traffic and activity as students and locals alike flocked to its stores and fast-food restaurants for meals, gas stations to fuel their generators and ice to keep groceries from ruin.
Those same resources — ice and gas — are tailgating staples for the tens of thousands of fans who flood campus during home games. Social media posts showed mile-long lines to get gas and people trying to refuel generators pulling up to empty stations after the tailgaters made their way to campus.
“Frankly, it’s unconscionable that a land-grant university is willing to imperil thousands of people in its community for the sake of thousands of visitors to its football stadium,” Central Mayor Andrew Beckner said via text message. “My neighbors are angry. I am angry.”
From what Clemson City Administrator Andy Blondeau could tell from recovery conversations with Clemson University, it was clearly always, "Game on" for homecoming.
“We suggested putting it off a day, rescheduling, but they discussed how prepared and recovered they were on campus,” Blondeau told The Post and Courier on Sept. 29. “I don’t think they looked beyond the borders to see how we were doing over here.”

Not 100% but I saw some footage from a chopper that looked like it and 1927 and the other places on that side of Memorial Hwy AKA 64 received little if any damage. Being in the cove saved the beach from getting inundated by all the Chimney Rock debris coming down the Broad which passed it up headed to the dam.
Still don't have definitive info on our house but it is up on the north end near the north beach and golf course off Quail Ridge Blvd. Most of our neighbors there are seasonal and while I am close enough to make a run over there and try to get in it would be stupid because it is only money and the roads don't need any looky-loos even if we do own property. Trying to coordinate with the neighbors to get one person closer to try to get in this weekend if it doesn't feel like the extra traffic will hamper rescue and relief which is far more important.
