I found out that somebody in my church has parents that live in the Asheville area. They haven’t been heard from. I hope it’s the comms being down.
We just got word from a couple of friends we have in the area a couple hours ago. It took them getting an email out to family to let them know they're okay. They said they're in the process of trying to check on friends, but it is slow going.

Not sure but I think this I26 in TN going over the Nolichucky. Could be wrong but that brown building is that was a tap house/outdoor place. Paddling company next door. Right when you get off the exit on I26 there in Erwin.

It seems to match the Civil Air Patrol photos just above.

My parents are in Asheville and I wasn’t able to contact them for 2 days. It was just the cell towers, they were fine. I’m sure your church friend’s family is in the same situation.

Feds bc they so willingly give our money away to foreigners. They should have already been there.

Everyone has family or friends affected by this.
Articles on boomer.com/news is not the same thing as live TV coverage.
People have the TV on every waking minute, they do not sit in front of their 'puter hitting f5 every 3 minutes for news updates.
If something is important the news channels spend more minutes covering it. It is that simple.
Quit being an autistic moron.

Can yall stop bickering about media coverage. You’re making it difficult for posters to get news/information from thus thread because they have to wade through pages of bullshite to find it
I second this statement.

Someone mentioned temporary bridges a few pages back by the Army I think?
How do they build these? I’m picturing metal type bridges.
I’m still so sad for all of these people .. I went to sleep in my nice bed in a cool home and took a nice shower. I wish even temporary restoration happens soon for at least some sense of normalcy.

They built one in Gaza (more of a floating pier) that cost about $230 million. It lasted all of 20 days.

Pretty sure I-26 is open to Asheville for folks coming in from the south.

Baily bridges are for smaller creeks and rivers.
A Canadian Company was used for the destroyed I-10 bridge east of NOLA after Katrina. The company has prefab units that can go from pier to pier. I talked to one of the crew there and he had been all over the world doing repairs. My guess would be they would be able to have the I-26 back fast if the piers are sturdy?
The I-40 washed out UNDER the road, and there is no flood plane at the base of it for work from to fill the tons of soil and rock that were under the road.
That area has had so many rock slides that it would tempt fate even further to cut back into the mountain and carve two more lanes out. I-40 being closed for six months is fairly common, a lot longer? Put a bridge over the RIver? Or just build a new interstate, the one proposed from Savannah to KNoxville?

This is some of the most jarring video of the destruction that I've seen. He's right, where the hell do you even start?

Just awful…the devastation is unheard of. It’s stunning what Mother Nature can do to human lives.

I wonder how deep that is? I’m not good at logistics but I’d think maybe bring dozers in and just scoop to the side and then clear??
So truly heartbreaking.

That’s just what you can see floating on top of the water. So sad. I grew up 45 minutes south of there in SC. When I was a teenager and bored I’d just hop in the car and take off to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.
