Greene Co folks have so far been coming into Jefferson and Hamblen to buy water but everyone can’t make that trip and the stores will eventually run out. I will say Hamblen Co has always kept a tap you can draw from (a city well so to speak) but that’s not going to be practical for everyone.

Also some stores can only do cash transactions right now.

Then what would they be reporting on? The handful of videos we've gotten out so far? Spam the same emergency phone numbers? Catch some exhausted official once every 10-12 hours? There's no communications. There's no power. There's barely running water.

Just a short scroll of INFO available in North Carolina’s Weather Authority:

*updates from specific counties

Someone in Knoxville just collected funds to fill an 18 wheeler to fill with water and take to Greeneville.

I just had a911 notice that a church up in Bean Station is giving hot meals today for those still without power.

We can hope that those without water can find springs rejuvenated by the huge rapid rain. That they know how to dig a pit toilet down hill from the springs, that they have propane to boil their water, and that they have some of their winter supplies that are so necessary when snow cuts off access to town.

Hopefully there’s some baws who are preppers in those rural areas with tons of supplies and knowledge that are willing to help out their neighbors

The news has never met an Appalachian they didn’t want to show struggling with tragedy. It’s a meme for god’s sake.

Not during a campaign cycle if they think its gonna hurt Harris in a swing state.

That is the only singular thing they care about it right now.

NC State, Duke, Wake Forest and Clemson all had home games on Saturday. Presumably all required substantial first responder presence that could have been used elsewhere. Apparently the states affected aren't taking it all that seriously either.

First, your bullshite politics have no place in this thread, this is coming from someone who has spent the day trying to find out if friends and family are safe or even alive. To make matters worse you are outright lying about the coverage. CNN and MSNBC have had a slide show with multiple links running at the top of their landing page all day, conversely, there has been nothing on the Fox landing page all day.

My original post was right on target. Thank you for bringing more attention to it.

The resiliency of those dams to not fail under such pressure is impressive levels of engineering

Made it out of WAVL yesterday. The devastation is unreal. Can’t believe this isn’t headline news. Will take decades to repair infrastructure.

The geography wont' change.
As someone with 25 years in geosciences, civil engineering, and geography, this is a geographical altering event, I assure you.
quote:

All this storm will do is move some rocks and boulders down the stream, wash some topsoil off of the mountainsides, undercut some old landslides making them unstable (big shudder at this not being over as the soils cascade down hill).
Yeah, that's geography. You're thinking of geography as it exists in the macro categories. The microgeography (local geography) of an area and how it's altered by flood events like this will impact the sociological, economic, architectural, and societal aspects of the areas hardest hit, because all of mankind's existence is based upon the geography of the surface of the earth and whether or not we can work with it, around it, alter it, or leave it as it is. There are times like this where the geographical alteration of an area upends man and his existence in that geographic area.

Case in point, this storm will be the death knell of many small Appalachian communities, and the altering of the geography and subsequent destruction of the infrastructure that was in place to work with that geography will be the catalyst to their extinction.

Man is a part of geography too, and we won't fully understand the effects this event has on the anthropogeography of this region for years to come.

I feel like I should salute that dam. I know we would have had even bigger problems if it hadn’t held and TVA even alerted us that a breach was imminent. It’s a miracle that it held. It really is.

Also if you’re on the right end of Greene Co … there’s a mountain tap on the way to Clinch Mountain anyone can draw fresh stream water from.

I found out that somebody in my church has parents that live in the Asheville area. They haven’t been heard from. I hope it’s the comms being down.

Either this is a disaster of biblical proportions or its not. People are hyperventilating about their two favorite whipping boys, the MSM and the feds, while giving the states a pass.

A few hundred more LEOs in the disaster zone might have been useful.

As far as your opinion of me, you're welcome to it. I couldn't care less.
