When we’ve gone down we’ve stayed at a mom and pop place right on the beach in Treasure Island. Not looking forward to finding out what shape it’s in.

Anna Marie has (had) plenty of places like that and they all said once the storm comes, they will never let them rebuild on the beach. Everything will be built up. While I agree with the building code, it takes away the charm of the towns.

People on Anna Maria Island trying to stay on their sailboat through the storm messed up. The boat broke loose from its anchor and got caught under the Cortez bridge. They had to abandon ship and the boat got destroyed.

Facebook link. Sorry

I saw Perry had a gust to 99 last night, but I’m on the can and haven’t had a chance to look at it yet this morning.

DOW recorded 104 around Perry.

The Palma Sola causeway was closed here last night because three big sailboats had washed up on top of the bridge

Damn, baw. That means they got a lot more surge than I thought, or what was expected. Ouch.

Yep that’s it. Really surprised it’s still standing, though under water and probably a total loss regardless.

The waves were insane. Can’t believe it didn’t get washed away.

Yup. Anyone watching the Weather Channel last night saw a camera of that house as the surge came in. About 10 PM central, the water was rising under there and the waves were breaking at just about the bottom of the house. At least it appears the structure survived, but we really don't know what the back side looks like. Heartbreaking stuff.

Actually, I think we've learned it's proven very valuable when alerting which areas need to be evacuated/prepared prior to landfall. But to argue it's longer-term accuracy or value beyond that is a pretty fruitless endeavor.

The idea, as originally intended, was for other agencies (SPC, WPC, local NWS offices, and local outlets) to become the primary forecasters after landfall and as the storm pushes inland. That's the idea, and there has been plenty of accurate information and forecasts put out by those outlets. The "cone", and particularly the center line, is relied too heavily on by people who are facing inland impacts. That has already proven true in this thread.

Yep that’s it.

That is not it. Here is the street view of the blue house and you can see that the awning above the porch is different.
