This thing is huge and hasn’t really gotten ramped up yet. Not saying it will but there is no reason it can’t become the worst storm ever in the Gulf. Everything is there and there is nothing to slow it down.

For those who understand this more than Scruffy, how concerned should my relatives in Tampa be?
They are riding it out. Not in a flood zone according to them.

I wouldnt stress much, as things stand.
Tampa is gonna get some wind, water is going to be high, but the eyewall is forecast (like, even if I assume the eastern edge of the cone) to stay offshore of Tampa.
The track forecast is screaming in your face obvious too. NHC hasnt really budged in two days.

Tampa looks to be safe except if you are along the coast and known low lying areas prone to flooding. I think they said maybe surges 4-7 ft along those areas. Flooding incoming

Will be well out of here by then and since we aren't getting the direct impact I think you'll be fine. Tampa Airport closes tonight at 2 a.m. but as of right now I've not heard of the Orlando Airport closing. At most we're getting high tropical storm force winds, but not even that much rain. Only 1 - 2 inches expected. Just squally weather on Thursday.

Wxman on Storm2k ran Slosh modeling and showed Tampa getting about 10' storm surge. It's about 2' higher than what's being forecast. How far inland are they?
