Destroy neighborhoods.
Your myopic view demonstrates why you should be quiet on the issue. You have no idea the consequence of what you speak of.

This is coming from the "hospitality" industry that can't complete with their shitty overpriced hotel rooms.
It is possible that their constituents want something done about STRs being almost a majority of houses on a block or the revolving door of bachelorette parties next door to them. STRs are an issue in every major city, this isn’t just driven by the hotels.

actually agree that STR should pay the hotel/motel taxes because that’s exactly what they are, decentralized hotel/motel rooms.
And be sanctioned in similar ways. Provide private sanitiation and such.
I have no problem with them existing in some form. But that form would make them unpopular to investors.

Are they really destroying neighborhoods though? Or are they just making neighborhoods more expensive and seriously impacting hotels?

Literally like being in the Warsaw Ghetto

Funny how this isn’t the case much any more.
Then shouldn't the consumer decide? Secondly, if that were the case then why is this even a discussion as the model would long be defunct.

People don't like rat infested hotels, so we have to outlaw alternatives.
That's progress

Im sure you haven't lived within 500ft of a active STR.
Leaving 10 trashbags on the street for a week at a time until the neighbors call the host. Busted bottles in the street because someone went a little too hard. Calling the cops because someone parked within 5' of "their" driveway during the Mardi Gras.
Good times.
Explain how the property value increases now.

That is literally what the law is intended to prevent - the blackrocks of the world buying the house next door to you and renting it out as a party house. This is a huge problem not just in New Orleans, but most attractive tourist destinations in the country.
As has been said over and over in the thread, commercial refers to the zoning of the land, not the legal status of the property owner.

Rather rat infested hotels than the STR tenants feeding rats on my street because an absent owner don't invest in quality cleanup.

Add in "super aggressive valets" and you could be describing Windsor Court.

Yep. Why I don't live there. Nor want it near my house.
Since the STR is gone the street is quieter, parking a bit harder, and have a dude on thr street with a killer bourbon selection.

You don’t even own a house in Orleans Parish

You just exactly described the Double To Dorms issues

There are blocks with more STR than residents… how do you think that would effect your neighborhood? Think you would have a relationship with your neighbors and any sense of community? Think it would be dirtier, louder and less safe?

You mean commercial building in commercial districts?

There’s only certain parts of the city where STR’s are allowed. But people abuse the rules.
Well, I remember New Orleans trying to make a compromise that would let people run STRs under certain guidelines (permits, unit counts, et al) and I get how that is a logistical nightmare to enforce. Current enforcement is honestly impossible because you have to pick out who from hundreds has their permits in order.
A flat out ban would be much simpler. If you see a listing, there is no grey area. I would support this in every major city.

No, the properties are owned by private individuals (or LLCs) who list them on AirBNB or VRBO. AirBNB or VRBO gets a cut of all the bookings made through their site.
Though groups like sonder not only do own properties, but also have group sales managers, their own booking sites, etc…

ban non-commercial STRs.
So corporations can still get theirs. That's cool.

Would be the easiest thing to have an applicant apply, match name and homestead exemption, auto registration.
Flag any of those if they change.
Halfway don't blame the "good suffer for bad" application because the bad have fricked up so much.
