vid of the core booster crash

It looked really damn close. Too dark to make out if it was pitching or just missed or what. Bummer!

Even when shite fricks up (center core) it still blows my mind how crazy good they have gotten at this.

Just for some perspective at its top speed the second stage was going over 8 times faster than the muzzle velocity of an M16. Spin-off in my mind from a poli-board discussion last night.

I wonder how sad the crew on center core is right now.

Is that all debris that keeps whizzing by the ship? I wonder how close that stuff is to actually hitting it.

I've been wondering the same thing. What the hell is that? Also what will become of that whole contraption when they're done with it? Does it just stay in orbit and eventually re-enter the atmosphere and semi burn up but debris land in the ocean somewhere?

Space junk is becoming a serious problem, you can google it and get all the info you care to digest.

Consider also this launch alone put 23 satellites into low earth orbit ~700km and 1 into medium earth orbit ~6000k. There is a ton of stuff up there and it grows all the time.

ETA it is just crazy to me that in 3 hours and 35 minutes they put 23 satellites into LEO and one into MEO. I wish there was a way to retroactively have the kind of video coverage we have for these for the Apollo missions, it would be spellbinding, at least for me.

So the live feed conveniently cuts out every time they deploy a satellite....

Im not buying it.

I'm watching Fox News and they have video of the launch and mentioned putting up the satellites, but no comment on the failure to recover one of the boosters. Fake news?

Why dont those fricking cheapasses at SpaceX get a bigger barge and put a better Dynamic Positioning system on it than the one they have?

It would make their attempts much more smooth.

While I am pretty sure you are kidding only 2-3 of them cut out and while several others were out of view of the camera over half were visible. The coolest one to me was the one put into MEO (the last one) it was the whole rear section.

If anyone didn't notice in the video there is an arc at the bottom of the screen and each dot (once in orbit) designates either a satellite deployment or an engine burn.

This is a true statement. Even better get some barges and a really massive net. They could slow that thing down and then pop some chutes and land in a net that is several acres stretched between about 4 barges.

The ultimate goal is to land rockets on Mars and relaunch them home.

Think about the logistics if that relaunch were to require acres of nets, several cranes and structural engineers certifying no damage when the rocket toppled into the net.

They were landing the smaller rockets on the ship like clockwork the past several years. The company providing the ships is a Mandeville baw. I'm not positive if they provided the ship for this falcon deal but they were previously.

I did not know we would be landing rockets on a barge in a Martian ocean.
