I pay less than .8 on the dollar. F’em. I’ve paid what I thought was reasonable and moved on for years. I get letters I throw away all the time. Use the money to invest or pay off your house. The system is corrupt and criminal.

my wife, no pics, spent a few years working in the medial profession, and a few of those dealing with the insurance side, so she speaks the language, years ago her mother spent almost two months in the ICU with no ability to pay out of pocket costs before she eventually died, negotiated away, a few years later her brother was terribly injured in a motorcycle wreck a few states away with no one to take care of him while he was rehabbing, she was able to get him a medi-flight on a corporate jet to where we live for zero out of pocket, every time we get a medical bill she'll look at it and if it doesn't look right to her she'll call the office and ask them to change to code and refile, there are ways around it

I’ve never had a hospital accounting/billing office not at least offer a payment plan. And typically at a discounted rate.

Nah

I worked in Access and/or accounting for 2 large hospitals for 17 years.

Payment plans are certainly always an option, but not at a discount. You're offered a discount if you can pay in full either day of or within X amount of days after your visit.

But I've never heard of payment plans and a discount.

I knocked my wife unconscious a few weeks ago while working at the house (long story )

I took her to the ER. They ran Xrays and CT scan.

$4500 bill

I'm lucky that I've worked with good companies over the years that put money into my HSA, so I have plenty of money to pay for these things.

I don't know how others pay for it though.

It just seems like the system is completely broken and has not reason or consistency.

Depending on the plan, Humana can be much worse.

People, do not let an elderly family member get a Humana Medicare Advantage Plan. UHC’s MAP isn’t much better but Humana is the worst.

Is it something you can pay a tiny amount over time with no interest?

The ones who do pay are given no quarter, that's how they can afford to eat the cost of those who don't.

Some issues

1,200 USD prescription is about 200 CAN (about 150 USD)

They have replaced PPO's with HMO's

They have replaced qualified staff with bean counters padding their bonus

They have eliminated jobs when health care is more in demand

The lobbyist sent health care to record profits and greatly diminished service

This will not change until the voters take action to replace current folks with those who actually represent actual taxpayers and voters.

You want change you have to get off the soap box and vote, and get others to vote. Do not vote for a single currently elected person who blames the other side instead of what they will do for you.

Single Payer will not work
Private will not work.

Some points to fix
#1 Strengthen HSA's instead of gutting them
#2 Assign a % of GDP to health care and create a system in the middle to benefit the most voters and taxpayers
#3 Kick corporations and the 1% of the 1% out and quit subsidizing them with tax dollars
#4 Educate the voters to see the the BS piled higher and deeper by leaders in BOTH parties

our entire society is built on the balancing act of cards that expects the vast majority of working class people to just suck it up while the leeches suck up more and more resources and politicians laugh to the bank

it’s the same way with anything right now. Pee in public as a homeless person, maybe yelled at. Pee in public as a white 20 year old college student, arrested, jail, $500-$1000 in fines on your record, etc.

Drive around with no insurance no registration no inspection as an illegal immigrant, won’t even get stopped. But make sure you take hours out of our life every year and pay hundreds of dollars to keep your car “up to date” and be ticketed right as it lapses

don’t even get me started on just allowing people to walk out of stores with full shopping carts

could go on and on. there are just no real consequences for people anymore and too many people who just don’t care

This needs a sticky by itself. It's so true.

I saw on the news this morning that if the govt shutdown occurs, our military stops getting paid, but congress still gets paid. That's enough for me to want to fire every single one of them.

- trying to cut up/move very large branch at our house so I can mow the yard at our house that is under construction
- battery powered chainsaw goes dead
- the house still does not have power due to construction, so I cannot charge battery
- ask my wife to help me move the branch out of the way (think 10" diameter and 20' long)
- she can't pick it up
- I tell her to get out of the way, I'll "walk" it to where I want it by moving one end at the time
- I assume she heard/understood me
- she attempts to be strong independent woman and still attempting to pick up the other end
- I carry my end around and its heavy as shite so I throw it down as soon as possible
- I didn't know she was bent over on the other end still trying to pick it up
- energy transfers down the branch and her end pops up and upper cuts her perfectly
- she goes unconscious for 30 seconds
- I think I just killed my wife in front of our kids
- She wakes up but doesn't remember anything about where we are or what day it was
- go to ER
- horrified the doc is going to call the cops because when he asks what happened she just points to me because she doesn't remember anything
- learn my wife has a stronger jaw than me because somehow it didn't break her jaw, but she is heavily concussed
- buy flowers and shite for a week

And dealing with the govt isn’t like that? They can’t even provide our veterans proper healthcare. Why should I think they could provide proper care to all 330m of us.

I know dealing with health insurance is a pain but the last thing I want is people like AOC pelosi and McConnell in charge of my health
