Health Care Facilities get $37,000 per covid death...

At least that's what my wife (nurse, no pics) was informed by her medical care director. And according to him he knows personally of several instances of places cashing in with deaths being reported that arent covid related (shocker for the OT, I know).
Also, he told her that if Joe Blow tests positive and goes back 5 times to get tested afterwards to find out he is negative.... well.. that's 5 positive cases reported.

STFU and put your mask on and get out of those bars and restaurants and do what I tell you to do

I thought this has been known for some time now. If anyone dies that happens to have Covid, that’s what they put as the cause of death. Profit

Yes. My father was in the hospital last month for a cardiac condition and they wanted it to be COVID so bad they couldn’t stand it. They tested him four or five times. Each time negative yet they kept him in the COVID ward the entire time and wouldn’t allow family to visit. Infuriating.

They for sure have a great incentive to make sure the uninsured meet the requirements to get reimbursed.
If you want to really get into the weeds, try looking up via cdc what defines a probable death from Covid which is later determined based on what Is listed as reason of death even if Covid isn’t.
You come in with a cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or pneumonia and die with “no alternative more likely diagnosis” ..you had Covid.
Come in with sore throat and headache die and had close contact to somebody with Covid or somebody with a cough that came close to somebody with Covid 14 days prior..you had Covid.

This also just shows how screwed up our healthcare system is in general.

Healthcare systems always follow the incentives. If hospitals got paid an extra $37,000 if a COVID patient was released on the 5th day then 99% of COVID patients would be released on Day 5.

Did Trump set something up to pay them that? Our regional hospitals are sucking wind. Where is it published and how do we get in?
Only funds we can expect to receive are earlier CMS payments - nothing additional or supplementary. Those were 'smoke and mirror' promises.

The controversy surrounding reporting who died of covid notwithstanding, that’s really not that much money. ICU room alone is 1-2k per night before meds, providers, etc. Ballpark 6-8k/d if they’re not using the most expensive newer experimental meds. Ventilator: 1-2k/d. Covid pts don’t just show up and due within hours of arrival, they’re usually there 6-14 days.
If we’re conservative: 6-8k/d x 10d is roughly double the payout of 37k. Factor in the population, uninsured, etc and the hospital is Losing out on more than it’s gaining

Had a guy in my town who’s father had a heart attack recently and passed. The hospital paperwork noted a COVID death, the son is livid.

I'd have to search for the article about the New Orleans convention center hospital expenses. If I remember correctly the government paid $876k per patient (not per death, per patient). They were paying nurses $245 per hour and they were guaranteed a 7 day/ 84 hour work week, with over half of that at time and 1/2.

I have no idea if the 37k thing is true since OP didn't back up his claim at all. However, are you trying to say a hospital has no incentive to collect $37k versus $0 on a patient they have to treat either way? If so, you are dumb as frick.

Lol no, collect it as much as you can and I can’t imagine any system turning that down, but in the end it’s not necessarily some net gain, just less of a loss.
Still doesn’t make labeling anyone a covid death because of a positive test if they died from a heart attack

I consider myself lucky enough to know nothing about long term hospital stays but how is being hooked to a ventilator a 1-2k cost per day? Or is that what’s billed?
