Don’t know exact numbers between actual cost vs what can be billed or collected, but simply connecting a patient to a vent, even if for only an hour, costs that much and the cost only goes up after that for additional things like oral care, ventilator complication prophylaxis, etc.

I honestly wish the charges for what we do were more transparent or readily available.

Each time negative yet they kept him in the COVID ward the entire time and wouldn’t allow family to visit. Infuriating.

I know you’ve been told this before but I’d be filing a complaint & getting a lawyer

So does everyone else. We also wish the costs were transparent to see if that half mile trip in an ambulance and overnight hospital stay with a bag of fluids was really worth $20k in charges to insurance.

It's not a flat $37k. The Cares Act (stimulus bill) allows hospitals to charge an additional 20% for covid patients.

People died from covid. People died with covid. People are presumed to have died from/with covid. Of course hospitals are going to claim all of those as covid patients for an additional 20%.
