I certainly don’t care about the Covid rules, but I don’t have a problem busting him for breaking National Park rules. If you had to get a permit snd he only got a permit for 11 people and took 153 bust him, if you don’t need a permit and he took 153 people in a bunch of small groups then they can pound sand.

This is exactly how i feel

Exactly. They likely think you can just show up and do this hike anytime you want

If you are camping anywhere at the bottom of the Grand Canyon you have to have a permit. These type of hikes are planned out long in advance and there are limited permits. And you usually have to get the permits several months to even a year in advance.

There are reasons for the limitations and it was there long before COViD.

Looks like only one charge is actually related to COVID and violates the size restrictions they placed. Rest were violating stuff that existed prior to COVID.

Also look at the time....October 2020.....that region (ESP the Native Americans that make up majority of the population there) was still hit pretty hard by the pandemic at that time.

i will preface this by saying the fact they are pursuing charges is the absolute pinnacle of stupidity and absurdness, however - if their are rules that are in place, no matter how stupid they are or no matter how much a person disagrees with it, if you break the rule - then you cannot be surprised when held accountable.

again this whole situation is dumb as hell, and a waste of time and resources - but if they do not, then the next time a situation warrants something to be done - people are less likely to listen.

So this tells me having 153 people hike along the Grand Canyon unorganized is fine. But being organized isn’t. That’s exactly what the government wants: no coordination amongst the people to stop their repression.

You're wrong.

They wouldn't allow 153 on the trail at the same time even if they were all in smaller groups.

Obviously they should have classified it as a BLM protest.

Nah, he willingly put those 153 people at undue risk (the hike, not the masks) and then lied to federal agents about doing so.

This isn't like the guy went out for a walk and got ambushed by park rangers.

The government does not “own” federal land. It belongs to the people.

Park rangers became aware of Mount’s plan about a month prior, according to court filings. A concerned citizen emailed the Grand Canyon permits office “to complain about a 100+ person rim-to-rim hiking group” scheduled to begin traversing the canyon on Oct. 24. The person sent screenshots from a Facebook group containing details of the plan by Mount, who was charging $95 a head for the trip.

social media yet again, the devil!

A third park ranger manning a separate station in the area, stated, “In my 7 months of work... I have never have [sic] witnesses so many individuals traveling in the same direction in such a condensed period of time and space.”

LMAO

Because outdoor hikes are powering the pandemic.

You realize how many people die in National Parks each year?

It's almost like park rangers would create some sort of safety protocol...

No but do you? How many die compared to how many visit? Maybe you are the type of adult who needs supervision but I can operate just fine without it.

backpacking permits/limits have been in place in our National Parks for decades mostly to prevent scenes like this

They’re not working as evidenced by this picture.

That’s Max Patch. A complete disaster created by government.
