I don’t think most posters saw Silicone Valley. LOL

coal plants kinda suck, natural gas burns clean so way better. you have to do so much on coal not really worth it, gas turbines are the way to go, we have plenty here

I thought it was unit 3. But unit 1 makes more sense. 3 is newer and more efficient. I also didn’t know about the Atlas Holdings sale. That was just a few months ago.

In 2019 it was sold to CLECO. Nothing changed in terms of operations. Just prior to the sale, one of the 3 units was converted from Coal to Gas
Unit 1 is now inoperable. It's just too far gone. I think it's scheduled to be demoed in the next year or two.
Unit 2 was converted from coal to natural gas in 2014.
Unit 3 can run on either coal or natural gas.

They call it mothballing. Likely won’t be a demo.

Only unit 2 is gas. It was converted 8 years ago. 1 and 3 are coal still. The conversion was part of a deal with the EPA
10 years for 2. 2014. I was with Buffalo Electric when they did that job.
1 has been been inop for a hot minute.
3 can run on coal or natural gas.

It's site ready and permitted. PC would throw tax breaks at them to revitalize it, or add on if the customer was there.
The Jummonville property was just converted to a solar farm. Not sure of the output on that "plant."

Why did you say “or” and say specifically that they would draw power from the nuke plant?
Because they will be? Hence why they located something that is power hungry next to an easily scalable piece of infrastructure?

I get why you are backtracking, but it’s all there in your original post.
Where? They built it next to the nuke plant because that is the infrastructure they want to be by long term.
The nuke plant that they will be drawing power from.
No where did I say when. I said why. Because of the infrastructure already in place.
Good day mate

Another one in Pennsylvania and they want to restart three mile island
Something tells me our entergy bills about to go up

Unit 1 is a raggedy mofo, but more power to them if they can get it back online.

Someone (can't remember the exact companies name) is getting ready to build a huge data center in Byron, IL right next door to the nuclear power plant there. Makes sense that they would have the same intent here.

It doesn't have to be a gas turbine. They convert coal-fired plants to use natural gas to fire the boilers. I have worked on controls for a place that did that way back. Coal-fired boilers need a metric crapton of air and trying to use those dampers to control the airflow into the fired part of the boiler was a bit of a pain for the guy I was doing the work for. The constraints of that job did not allow him to replace that part and he had to retrofit those the best he could.
Steam Turbines can be very efficient.

Not according to the guy that ran Flour's electrical side there until the late 2010s.

How are the skill sets and companies that currently work in south La comparing to what will be needed to build these data centers?
There is a shite ton of work down here, especially with the LNG export facilities. It’s going to be interesting to see how the workforce for these construction projects adapt.

Facts.
And given that big data center in N. La, where are they going to find enough electricians?
It's a great time to be an industrial level electrician, lol.
