A headhunter just called my work number. I work in a small office and usually the secretary answers the phone and transfers the call, but anyone can answer the phone when it rings. What if my boss answered first!? I quickly said not interested and hung up the phone. I'm not interested in a new job and like my current job. I think it was unprofessional for the headhunter to call me at work on my work number. What do y'all think?

You should have heard him out and parlayed in into a raise.

I get a couple of those a month and trust me I'm no great hire. I think they just randomly call people in the industry they're looking at.

Give him/her your cell phone or email and let them know that is the preferred way of contacting you from here on out. It never hurts to know your options baw

They don't care if you're good at your job, they get paid regardless if they place you somewhere new.

I've never been a fan either, but it's pretty common

How would anyone know it was a headhunter calling?
Do they ask who is calling before sending you a call?

Nah, I'm pretty sure they get paid twice. Once when you are placed, and once again after like a year of you being there?

I don't really find it unprofessional and youre an idiot for not at least seeing what they were calling about. What if they were seeing if you were interested in a job that paid 25% more? I'm not looking for a new job either, but if somebody offered me more money I'd take it.

Why are you worried? It raises your value.

Christ Almighty, you probably freak out if a woman gives you a second glance while you are on a date too.

That's not uncommon

Especially if you are listed on company website

It's happened to me. They just look at your place of employment on LinkedIn and call the main number and ask for you.
