That's ballsy. Where did the headhunter get the number?
If the OP is on LinkedIn, I bet there.

You’re a very hot commodity

Happened to me in a hospital. Back in the mid 2000’s when nursing shortages were bad in Houston. I answer the ER phone. “Can I speak to a nurse?” We get nurse calls all the time so I say I am a nurse. “Are you happy at your job?” I laugh and told him he was too late. I was already an agency temp working there. He doubles down letting me know if I knew anyone there looking to move he’d throw some $$$ my way.
Staffing agencies were cut throat and dime a dozen back then.

Why would you be nervous about a recruiter calling you?
Posted on 3/22/18 at 3:07 pm to Red5LSU
Strategic Planning - He gets you fired and makes a marketing call to your boss to fill the position.

I think it was unprofessional for the headhunter to call me at work on my work number. What do y'all think?
did you post this story bc you're hoping your boss is a regular on the OT and comes across this? just curious

True, but don’t some make more money the longer you stay in the position?

Had it happen to me before. Very bush league. That kind of shite will definitely not get you a call back.

Yeah, I've gotten phone calls from headhunters on my office line, and e-mails from headhunters to my work e-mail.
I usually respond back from my personal phone/e-mail with my non-work contact info if they want to chat.
Any decent boss (I understand many are not decent) understands that if you are being recruited, then you are a valuable employee.

How would anyone know it was a headhunter calling?
Do they ask who is calling before sending you a call?
Almost always otherwise they won't patch you through.

I think there is a 1-year bonus and rarely a 5-year?
Executive Recruiters are different. I'm really not sure. Most are in it for the bulk up-front though.

I had a bunch of recruiters call me, so I’m several times. I was just too lazy to move to another position even though it was better. When I was laid off, and actually needed a recruiter, they were nowhere to be found. So be nice to them because you never know when you might need one. But only deal with them while you’re working. If youve been laid off, You are as attractive as a sex offender to them.

Headhunters call me all the time. Crazy thing is that it is a family business, so they call (my last name) Company, and ask for me, and never seem to put two and two together

This isnt always true though. I had a coworker I was excited was leaving for somewhere else because he fricking sucked, spent more time on his phone with his wife then he did actually working.

As someone who has to do a lot of smiling and dialing, A lot of people just don’t answer the phones. It goes to voicemail 90% of Time unless they are expecting you.

Now that's some good shite
Do you tell them? What is their reaction? I could see some of these folks saying "So what? You interested?"

I usually just ask them the path to ownership at the job, then they start to realize.
I could probably double my salary because someone with my age, experience and customer portfolio can pretty much pick their job in my industry, but none of them would lead to ownership, so .....

Why would you be so scared to find out if you have other options? If you work in a position where bosses fire people for looking then it's not the kind of job that needs head hunters.
