My grandpa was in the 82nd Airborne and flew in the gliders. The website has a story about them and some pictures included.

These are fantastic answers. I will only have two full days and plan to stay in Bayeux. Me oh myeux.
I have a guide and will be by myself. Stoked. Supposed to be misting rain and 60 degrees. Should be great.

This. Because if you listen to the libtards, Nazis are alive and doing terrible things.

While in Bayeaux, take an hour or two to see the Bayeaux Tapestry.
If you are not moved walking through the American Cemetery, something's wrong with you.
The British cemeteries are interesting as they are much more numerous and somewhat different from the American.

Mont St Michel is worth the trip. Especially if you have any interest at all in Medieval history. Put it on your list.

We were there in September. As others have said the American Cemetery is emotionally moving. I tried to learn as much as I could about what went on at Normandy before we went. I am glad I did. If you haven't seen Band of Brothers I recommend watching it before you go. I will always remember visiting Normandy.

Went in early fall 2006, with my parents and grandparents. My paternal grandfather landed on Utah Beach, and my grandmother was a British War Bride and RAF veteran. As a Marine veteran it was surreal to stand on the beach with my grandfather and my dad (a National Guard and Army Reserve retiree). We crossed the channel on the ferry from Portsmouth, where my grandparents met in a Pub (that is sadly a parking lot now), to Caen. We stayed at the Lion d'Or in Bayeux. There was a good museum in Bayeux, and of course go see the Bayeux Tapestry. There are tiny museums everywhere, and my grandfather wasn't allowed to pay for entry into any of them, or for a meal at any restaurant. The cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer is a must, and be prepared for the wind. I'm a pretty picky eater, so while breakfasts were fantastic, the dinner and supper choices were pretty suspect. We had an amazing 2-day tour but that was nearly 20 years ago, so I can't remember who with.

Read up on and go see the XYZ complex. When you see what Harrison Summers accomplished almost entirely by himself, you’ll be amazed.
Also go see Pegasus Bridge and the bridge at La Fiere. It was a tiny little bridge where a fierce battle took place.

like to visit Normandy, places in the Netherlands where Market Garden occurred, go through the Ardennes into Germany, and make my way down to Bavaria.
There is a lot more to the war than what you saw in Band of Brothers.

Went a couple of years ago as a week post-cruise extension. Based in Bayeux and did day trips to the beaches. A drive over to Mont-Saint-Michel is not to be missed. As was the day trip to Honfleur.
One of our best trips ever.

I went a month ago and it’s amazing in person. Inside the walls were packed with people, like can’t walk crowded. Highly recommend seeing it in person and getting there early before the tour busses arrive

I can’t fathom the country we were and the one I wake up to every morning.

Mont-Saint-Michel is definitely worth the visit. Try your hardest to get there before the tour busses start to pull in at 11 AM, aim for 8 or 9 am. Don’t bother wasting time eating there also as right down the road from the parking lots are other restaurants. Rush to the top abbey and enjoy the sights without being in a mass crowd

Mont St Michel was stunning to walk up to. Really cool area. But that was the weirdest “church” I’ve ever been in.

Overlord Tours is great, highly recommend. If you stay in Caen, that's more of a city with amenities, Bayeux is a town. The train ride between the two is like 15 minutes. King Marcel is a great French chain in Caen that I miss. When you're in France, learn some very basic French (Bonjour, Bonsoir, Parlez vous anglais, je ne parle pas francais) (Good day, good evening, do you speak English, I don't speak French). If you use a little French, people are nice. Also, another poster said take sand but I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I took some pebbles back when I went but they also have cool gift shops that sell WW2 memorabilia.
