Well this sucks for the taxpayer.

quote:

Three historically black universities in New Orleans and one in Mississippi will see about $330 million in post-Katrina debt owed to the federal government cleared under a provision in a congressional budget deal signed by President Donald Trump. Dillard University, Xavier University and Southern University at New Orleans and Tougaloo College, just north of Jackson, Miss., borrowed the money in 2007 from the U.S. Department of Education as they struggled to deal with crippling blows dealt by Hurricane Katrina.

quote:

Xavier borrowed $165 million through the program, while SUNO took out $44 million and Tougaloo borrowed about $28.5 million, according to Education Department data compiled by The Wall Street Journal. The Journal reported in 2017 that the four institutions together had paid back about $12.4 million.

If you borrow and never return, it's called theft

Bailing out private businesses is never a good idea.

Like most, if not all educational institutions, they will take anything that is available.

Then complain their budget has been slashed the next year.

Go drive past SUNO. They're building new buildings left and right.

Tougaloo is north of Jackson. Why would they need that much money for hurricane assistance.

HBCUs are a joke. I took a couple of classes at southern for an extra certification. The professor was one of the “best on campus” and her class was a zoo. In the middle of her lecture people would shout out “preach girl” “tell it” like it was a religious service. This was a junior level course in a room full of people who were going to be teachers.

Well, when we start official reparations, somebody should keep track of items like this so we can deduct them from the total.

Damn that. I don't want my share going to this shite. I'm selfish and want my portion coming directly to me. They should've let SUNO close IMO. Xavier is a pretty good Pharmacy and Pre-Med school so their school is debatable if it should be closed.

Are they going to tell Trump “thank you”?

Seems like he has been pretty fair to all sides of the “perceived” racial divide in this country. But he doesn’t seem to get any credit for it.

Also: Poli board, man. Poli board.

It's private, so the state can't close it. Their endowment is only $160MM, so this loan pretty much doubled their value at the time. Or they are pissing the money away.

Trump has done more for African Americans in one year than Obama did in eight.
