Having trouble finishing books as I get older

I recently turned 50. Over the past year I've started, I'm guessing, five different books. I haven't finished any of them. A couple of them I was really enjoying, got about 2/3 of the way through, and just never picked them back up. When I was younger, I never had this problem.
What's the deal? Is it this bite size, instantaneous satisfaction grab society that we live in? I complain about the kids' inability to focus and sustain anything, but guess that I'm just as guilty. Anything else that could be causing this?
I'm already expecting a bunch of tl;dr responses, so don't waste your time.

I got halfway through this post, but I couldn't finish it.

I have the same problem. I fall asleep reading. Getting old sucks.

You're going to have to stop reading books about baseball. You'll finish more often when you do.

Unfortunately. I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy.

As I got older I didn't like coloring as much as I did when I was a child.
But by older I meant like 6-8, not 50.
But hey, you got here and that's all that matters.

Not to shite on you, because I'm not trying to, but I'm the opposite now.
I have to be really interested in the topic though. Couldn't put down the last 2 I read. Knocked out a 500 pager in 3 days and an 800 one in a week.
I do get distracted very easy though before I pick up the book. Once I start now, I'm good for 50 to 100 pages

I do that sometimes if the book seems predictable and I don't want to put the energy into finishing it.

You have what is know as literectile dysfunction.
Very common in old people.
Common treatments are Lib-vitra, Readvatio, and Viagra.

Much of happiness is predicated on managing expectations.
Start to read books that you'll want to finish-

I'm a little over half your age and I do this too, so I don't think it's just an age thing. Sometimes we just get preoccupied or pick up another hobby and take a break from reading. Only reason I finished one recently was that I bought a new one and made myself finish the previous one before starting the new one.
ETA: If I'm not interested in finishing a book or movie I'll sometimes just go read the rest of the plot on Wikipedia.

You have to sharpen your focus. People's attention spans are getting shorter due to information overload. Tune out some of the other distractions and power on through.

I do the same. I can't remember the last book that I read in its entirety.

I have the exact same issue. I have to sip coffee while I read or I'll fall asleep after about 20 pages.
