re: Having family "Christmas" several days or even weeks before dec 25... trashy?

In my family, the extended family gathers a week before to eat, watch football, and hang out (no gifts are exchanged) so that on Christmas day, each family unit can celebrate just with their children. It’s basically an extra thanksgiving minus formal seating. It’s close enough that it’s still in season, but far enough out that it rarely conflicts with anything. It ensures no one has to choose between their immediate or extended family or in-laws.

Bro, some people work out the country on Dec 25th so they celebrate Christmas early

Sorry we don't have any divorced people in our family.

If you have a large extended family and they're spread out geographically, you can't avoid it. You can only to so much travelling.

You just say frick it and only see one family for Christmas because going a week early would be trashy?
That's what we do.

My family is waiting until December 28 to have Christmas because that's when I get out of prison.

You worry way too much about everyone else man

6 months of celebrating Christmas and 6 months for Easter.

Worrying about everyone else and asking if something is trashy is the textbook definition of trashy

I have grown sons, the oldest had moved out of state for a promotion. Either he or a new employee could be off for Christmas weekend. Although he has seniority, he felt bad for the new guy and offered to work so the guy could go home for Christmas.
Mine came home for the weekend only last week. We did our family Christmas with him and his fiancée. I never considered that event trashy, but now I feel dirty.

My late fiance was so "trashy" this way. He'd schedule his Christmas with his kids (teens) and family every year on some other day than Christmas Eve or Christmas Day every year.
Never spent Christmas eve or Christmas day with them, year after year.
He was a Capt with the NOFD who volunteered to work those 2 days straight (48 hour shift) so that his men with young kids could be there with their kids.
That just made me love him all the more.

My family lives in Chicago, Charlotte, Denver, and Fort Myers, and my significant other’s family is in Milwaukee, with my sisters husbands families being in Iowa and Utah, respectively.
Explain the logistics of not doing Christmas a different weekend and making everyone happy.

You and your family sound like southern trash, Bruco.

I have 10 different family Christmas parties. I expect I’ll attend 6-8 of them. All of them are direct family members except my best friend’s Christmas thing. God I wish it could be spread out more

Christmas or Christmas Eve.
Everything else is questionable

Asking the OT if something is trashy, is trashy.
