After this storm. Between New Orleans myriad of long standing problems, new vaccine passport mandates from our dipshit mayor, and these storms becoming seemingly more frequent and intense, I think Im just at the end of my rope.

And this obviously extends beyond New Orleans to all of south LA and the rest of the gulf coast.

I thought that same thing earlier when I walked outside to observe the blackness as Ida passed Gonzales. I was sick for 2 days with anxiety. So I too thought Why the frick do we stay here?

Then I came back in the house and sat in front of my computer(powered by generator) and read about the Cajun Navy rescuing people in Laplace within an hour of receiving their location. 911 dispatchers told these people it would be hours before crews were permitted to respond.

That kinda shite makes our state, especially South Louisiana, special.

Between the oppressive heat and this latest hurricane I’m in the same boat. I’ve got some family and a potential job in Ohio. I’m not sure I could handle the cold though. The wife and 3 year old would pack up and go right now.

Yeah that’s the key word here…the storms are just being storms. They get more hype now with the sensationalization of the media and there is a regency bias in your mind as well I’m sure. It’s an unfortunate part of living near the upper Gulf Coast though, not some sort of global warming or climate change if that’s your take away. Not saying it is but that’s one of the media talking points.

If it is a deal breaker you might have to relocate. Just be wary of where you go as a “fix”. I could have told you back in April of this year how old tornadoes get in the Birmingham area after several “high risk” bouts in a row for example.

enjoy living in Portland, OR far more than I enjoyed living in New Orleans. Let that sink in. And New Orleans is “home” (I mean except for London, mates).
Except for the politics, it's a beautiful state. The people there, though, in my experience, are lazy and self-centered.

Don't get me wrong when I state this, because I have tremendous respect for every single member of that group. They're American Hero's. But they exist because of the shitty short straw Louisiana gets every year for fricked up weather. That said, as much as I love the food, the festivals, the parades, the fishing, hunting and friendliness of people there, the fact is, it is one of the least desirable places to live.

I moved to Texas at the age of 41. Been here 24 years. Roads are great, schools are great, diversity of employment opportunities is great, food is great (just not Louisiana great, but much more diverse), no income tax, and except for the heavy-handed Democrat run cities the government is generally pretty good and free of corruption.

People in Louisiana are definitely friendlier and more open to welcoming new friends into their lives, though, and that counts for a lot, but it's also Louisiana's Achille's heel, too. Everyone lives for the next party, the next festival, the next 'good time', the next football game, the next Mardi Gras parade that the state of affairs is one where the power of planning goes into planning around all the fun, and not around how to improve things. Instead, the populace tend to look past the problems to the next good times, like an alcoholic looks past the current bottle of booze and says to himself he can quit anytime he wants to, but never does.

Yes, Louisiana is definitely a state to have fun in, but after that, then what? Like that alcoholic looking into the bottle of booze, it's emptiness. You know it'll never change by itself and the wall of corruption, cronyism and malaise make the effort to try and change things a fruitless endeavor, like Don Quixote tilting at windmills.

As someone who made the move, I can say, it was worth it, but it came at a cost, being honest. The distance between myself and friends created distance in those relationships, and that's the sad part. Real friends are harder to make than those you grew up around and with who you share commonality, but if you want friends, you still have to be open to welcoming people into your lives, same as anywhere.

Not PHX metro. You want to avoid any natural disasters that will potentially frick up your house? Move here.

No earthquakes, no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no wildfires. Monsoon season brings dust storms with some wind…but it won’t do serious damage.

Hate on the heat here if ya want(it can be brutal in the summer), but you will never be stressing over your home being destroyed here.

There's evidence that the Southwest's climate has been abnormally wet for the last 200 years and that the recent droughts are actually the region's normal condition. If so, Phoenix and other cities in the region will be coping with existential threats of their own.

Wildfire is the one risk you can largely mitigate with site selection, landscaping and construction materials.

Now isn’t the time to dunk on nola but just go when you get the chance. It’s an adjustment but you’ll be far better off in a few years.

Once I grew up a bit and got out of party/social mode combined with getting married and starting a family i really started to question my situation living in Louisiana as well. We decided that in 6 years when my stepsons that we share custody with are out of the house we are getting out of here. Every city in Louisiana of any decent size with things to do is overrun with thugs and shitbag democratic leadership. Sure I can get a place out in the country or on outskirts of the cities but anytime we wanna go do anything you have to deal with all the riff raff. Just tired of it. There’s got to be a better way.

The family & I moved to NC (outside of Raleigh) a year ago from BR. Zero fn regrets! I wish we would have moved sooner, but we did get some good memories in with family. If anyone on this board has the opportunity to move out of LA you should do it ASAP. Find a way if you can.

I never really came back to the state after I graduated LSU. All my blood family is there. For me what will never allow me back is the quality of life. It is far too high here in Southlake, TX to ever ask my wife/kids to downgrade.

I am not tied down to this area either. It’s just where I settled down. As others have said, I can always visits and do often.
