Unless I have to go to one of my wife's relatives' funerals, I doubt I'll ever go to New Orleans again.
But an important note, I've lost interest in bigger cities anyway

I enjoy big cities but yes it's not just a New Orleans problem. I was in NYC in 2019 and it's pretty night and day now. Doubt I would go back to NYC right now in its current state. Sadly I think the cities will get a lot worse before they get better. Would like to get up to Boston just once to see the history there.

Was planning on going to the Chargers/Saints game on the 26th. But now we are reluctant to stay at our usual hotel and go out that weekend.

So we are thinking of going to the game only.

But that feels like a bigger hassle than it’s worth given that we can’t make a weekend out of it. We probably won’t go at all now.

For me there are only three reasons for me to cross the lake:

1.) Get to the airport
2.) Visit the WWII museum
3.) The WWII air show

Haven’t spent a dime there since Covid started. It’s dead to me.

Wow ! You could move to New Orleans and have an incredible experience and perfect night like that every night of the week. I mean all year round and without driving 110 miles round trip from and to Gonzales.

Went back in spring and took a picture by the cannon on river with St. Louis cathedral in background
Little did I know the cannon has disappeared
It’s a sad day for the city that symbols are being removed that slap history in the face
People fought for a cause they believed in at the time whether right or wrong
Now you have people that want to erase history from over a hundred years ago because it offends people that will never understand their place in society

I was in Austin all last week. Stayed downtown and love the city. But observations from one of the OT's favorite cities:

1. Bums are frickin EVERYWHERE. Just like any big city. Passed out in alleys and crevices to get out of the heat.
1a. A crackhead lost his shite and wielded a fricking machete right outside the JW Mariott at 8pm on a Tuesday night. To their credit, the Austin cops didn't kill or even hurt him as they finally got him to drop the machete and hauled him off to loony bin. Big cities have big city shite. Bottom Line.

2. Their ATT cell service fricking sucks. You go from great service to zero service walking downtown. Downtown Baton Rouge and New Orleans both have more consistent cell service than downtown Austin. FACTS. Surprisingly there is no free wifi for the masses.

3. A cyclist slapped my hood for encroaching on the crosswalk at a stop light. It was my bad as I thought about running the light but hit the brakes.I started to back up when this hipster cyclefag comes flying by and smacks the hood and flipped me off.

My last trip to NOLA will be when I’m buried in St. Patrick’s #1 - hopefully it won’t be for a while …

ETA: as for your list - I’ve only been to Austin and Nashville - I can’t stand Austin, Nashville is fun

It wasn’t intentional but I’ve moved and have no desire to visit NOLA again.

I want to go back and spend at least two days at the WWII museum again. In my opinion it takes a minimum 2 days to truly experience it. But sadly it’s just not worth getting mugged, murdered, and my truck stolen. Thus, until the lawlessness and crime situation is addressed, which under the current leadership is highly unlikely, I won’t be going back. I hate to say that because I’ve loved going New Orleans for years.

Go Cups are underrated in big city entertainment districts.
We spent a day in San Antonio before going to Austin last week. Walking from the Alamo to the River Walk I saw signs for To Go Drinks everywhere. I don't remember that being legal the last time I was there 12 years ago. Is that new to the Riverwalk Alamo area in San Antonio?

Just got home after dinner at La Boca. The restaurant was full. Cochon was packed as well. People were walking on the sidewalk…they weren’t trash. NOLA is going through a bad spell right now. But, it isn’t dying. Things will bounce back, as it has in the past.
