Yes and I have witnessed a crash like that as well. In early 1990's (possibly 1989) They had the hot air balloon festival in BR at the fair grounds.

One of my earliest memories as a kid, being at a driving range with my dad and seeing a “funny looking” skinny balloon falling quickly.

Once, and never again.

I recall one crashing in BR a long time ago during the hot air festival. It crashed in a neighborhood off Highland, not far from Airline, if my memory serves me. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Open flame around some nylon or polyester meant to keep me in the air just doesn't seem like a good idea.

You will never catch me in one unless I am there against my will.

Watching this while at lunch in Napa Valley. Wife and I were really intrigued watching the balloons this morning. Not any more.

That’s crazy. I wonder if the one who jumped was a survivor, doubtful but who knows

I don't know if he did but the pilot who survived said it got low enough (I'm guessing that part wasn't recorded) to the ground where he told them to jump out and those that did survived. Not everyone jumped though and then the balloon started going back up and that is when the rest stuck in it burned and died.

I saw that from the viewing stand where the festival announcer was standing. I remember him trying to find the words to say afterward.

To answer the OP yes. The same year as the accident in BR I had ridden on one of the morning ascensions with a female pilot. It was very peaceful and felt like my head was on fire when the burners were on. What was odd is that you feel no wind. You are part of it. Would do it again.

Was in B.R. during the balloon festival. Stayed with my sister who lived off Seigan next to that Christian church and school. Behind it was an open area and it was a take off area for the balloons. Amazing how fast they got them up and how fast they rose when they put the fire to em. Cool morning coffee.

I have, It’s boring. Hot air balloons are beautiful…viewed from the ground.

That is a legit great story. But I bet it was painful in real time.

It’s impossible to survive that.

Nah, piece of cake. It’s just like an elevator; you bend your knees and jump six inches before impact.

Three hours is insane. I didn't think the balloons carried enough propane for much longer than an hr.

You’re telling me 21 motherfrickers can fit in a hot air ballon buggy? That’s wild.

I know the one we took only fit six people. We took one in Mexico City
