I lived in a dumpy apartment near West End in Orleans Parish. One Sunday evening, I walked into the hall just as they wheeled my across-the-hall neighbor’s body out of her apartment. She had OD’d. Years later, I took my wife into the building to see where I used to live but the hallway smell overwhelmed her and she bailed. I had a vehicle break in and some guy exposed himself to a female friend jogging in the neighborhood but it seemed relatively safe to me.

I had buddies that had their first apartments off of North Sherwood and Blvd de Province too. Those weren't as shitty or dangerous as they are now but they weren't great either at the time.

Yep. Lived in bayou fountain area near Gardere for a while. Was held up at gunpoint there once. Stayed another year after that.

Moved to an apartment just north of
Waffle House on College for a short while after. Wasn’t much safer but it was what I could afford.

My first apartment after graduating college with no roommates. It was a real dump.

Not at all. Just a little trashy, maybe (no pizza-tipping motherfrickers). Pretty sure my brother lived there briefly as well. (Makes sense.)

Lived in a couple dumps during my time in Morgantown at WVU. Was right next to the stadium though which was great for tailgating

Think the pool is filled in with dirt now

My apartment in Tigerland had a courtyard in between a bunch of 4 plexes. They still had pool ladders and a diving board sticking out of the dirt for a pool that was probably filled in 15 years earlier.

Studio Arms, torn down now, on Stanford at the end of W. Lakeshore. Hell, I lived in S. Stadium dorms one year.

I lived a few years in those apts. on the left of Sharp, just N. of Florida Blvd. It was $200/month, and is over $800, and ghetto now. I would not go in their parking lot now.

During college days lived in an old rent house near campus. Cold and moldy. Bleach only killed the mold for about a week. Anytime we spilt something on the floor we didn't have to mop it up cause it just ran down the sloped floors to the walls. Moved out asap.

I lived in in apartment in my early 20s for a year, in the hood.

My neighbor was a senior citizen and had one of those nurses living with him. Every night I could hear her (nurse) beating the shite out of him (senior citizen) but for whatever reason I was too scared to call the police.

Walls were thin as paper.

Living in the hood in those types of places humbles you, but it was genuinely all I could afford at the time.

upgrade from my apartment on State Street

I loved my apartment on State Street. I have lived in some other shithole apartments back in my school days, both in Baton Rouge and elsewhere.

Yep. First apartment was on lake Calais court (behind Popeyes between staring and Essen) was 400/month.

Had 2 neighbors murdered in less than a year. 1 was a young woman with 3 kids killed by baby daddy. Another was drug deal gone wrong.

Got out of there with the quickness when my lease was up.
